Greatsword vs longsword vs dual blades?
What's the best out of the three. I used to use the long sword on PS4 but i've never used the other two.

Whichever you feel most comfortable with.

That's completely a "you" thing.
There is not really a "best" weapon unless you play in the 0.1% and go for world speedruns on monsters or something. It all depends on which weapon is compatible with YOU.
Not to mention, what's stopping you from trying them? Hunt a few Rathalos, Diablos or whatever and see if they click with you.

they're absolutely uncomparable to each other in terms of playstyle(I ill try to compare them noetheless from my experience),do you want to know speedrun statistics?it's GS,DB and LS on the last place
LS is all about parrying(special dodge attacks and getting powered move afterwards) to continue your combo for big damage with big range, all about versatility in any matchup
DB is all about dodging and dealing damage 24/7 without any big risk, pretty much always useful except when you need to break the head,it becomes a bit tricky
GS is all about hit-and-run or knowing enemies timings to deal incredible damage with bonks on weak spots, really situational unless you're good at weapon, because you ill get hit way more than you get to do big bonks on head(you can poise through attacks but that requires knowledge anyways)

more to comfortable, aside that longsword and dual blade more flexible.

It's really all about the user.

If you main greatsword, then it is the greatsword.

If you main longsword, then it is the longsword.

If you main dual blades, then it is the dual blades.

I main longsword on 1 character and dual blades on another but I choose longsword since I play that longer. I also played all the other melee weapons.

Anyway, think of greatsword as a much much much slower longsword that you need to sheathe very very often (almost after every attack though I think now there's a tackle that can help you power through some damage) and don't go for as lengthy combos.

Think of dual blades as a much much much faster longsword that pretty much is reaction based meaning very close to dark souls kind of dodging.

If you want to look for something close to longsword controls, go for lance. The counter thrust is literally same buttons as foresight slash and to be honest, it is easier to pick that up if you have played longsword.

Best place to try out the weapon is the arena since you get a live target, a free set of armor, weapons and items, and 9 faints.

Nah, people love greatsword. A lot of people use it, and world even gave it TCS to mix things up.

Go for hammer. Why cut when you can bonk the head

There's no best weapon. Just the weapon that works best for you. The Longsword is easy to use, flashy, has a long reach, and has a defensive move with its counter. On the other hand, Dual Blades is also easy to use, but requires you to be dangerously close to the monster to deal damage. It's pretty high risk high reward, especially when you take "Demon Mode" (which deals more damage, but also drains your stamina during use) into account. In return for its extremely close range, most of the Dual Blades attacks are extremely fast, allowing you to react much quicker to the monster than most other weapons, but if you overuse Demon Mode, you won't have the stamina to dodge.

I think I'll stick with the long sword. I always thought db could kill faster because how fast they are.

what weapon you use is entirely up to personal preference. There is no definitively "best" weapon in this game unless you are looking for something brain-dead that will essentially play the game for you... there are a couple bowgun playstyles that accommodate that.

if you want my opinion though... Play Hunting Horn! nothing is better than dooting on a monsters face with a musical hammer! JOIN US!!!

as somebody who swaps weapons often.

all are good it's subjective.

long sword is good for big damage numbers but is slower.
long sword is good for fast combo's
and dual blades are turn your brain off fun.

it's a matter of preference.
As far as I'm aware Dual Blades has the best DPS among them so I guess technically it's the best weapon among those three (things might have changed with the new stuff of course). Well many people have already explained why you shouldn't really think from that perspective, just use what weapon(s) you like.

I main LS, but both greatsword and duals got very good movesets so its up to you, its a good reminder that both LS and GS can carry you if you only focus on raw damage.
Meanwhile you gotta grind (just a bit, not too much) to get at least a decent dual blade for each element if you wanna be effective in your hunts, its not a good idea to carry the same element on every single hunt if you are using duals.

Also you can almost forget about stamina while using LS or GS, meanwhile using duals require you to think a little bit for your stamina management (yeah just like Dark Souls) but its just a minor issue, one could say that GS is soo low, therefore requiring you to know how to punish moves from the monsters.
