However, you may want a firepower boost after running into Behemoth, even moreso for Extreme Behemoth. Those guys require either legendary coordination or Iceborne-level firepower to beat. Same for Ancient Leshen, but Behemoth at least gives relevant gear in the form of the Dragon Soul, while Ancient Leshen is pretty much left in the dust.
I think I'll just stick with them now though, since I can't get any more upgrades over Jho weapon afaik.
Well, I want to have experience as close as possible to vanilla MHW with updates.
Making my own custom sets and gearing up was pretty fun, even if it's meaningless in long run.
During main story: avoid like the plague .
Post-main story: Do what you will. After not using it for the main story, you've likely picked up enough skill as a hunter to contribute positively to the hunt.
My main problem with Defender armor is how newbies get it when they shouldn't. It helps with speeding through the main story content, but it ends up creating tons of bad habits that become quite problematic to break.
Yeah I just ignored Guardian armor completely, early game it's broken, but late game it's mediocre at best (2 slots? Marathon Runner as not bow/db? No thx).
It's weapons that are best in slot and about which I was concerned about.
