TLDR Bad joke was said in MH movie, was likened to an older but similar rascist joke about asians. Chinese took offense and outrage began (review bombing included), then “anti-sjw” types begin counter outrage in forums.

There was a leaked scene from the movie, while the film wasn't even released in china.
Chinese got really offended by a joke.

Apparently Chinese people didn't appreciate a pun (not that good) from MH movie where a character said "What knees is this? Chinese?" (or something like that) and call that racist < These is all what I've gathered, so it prone to be wrong

Best part about this is that they review bomb MHW and Capcom who have nothing to do with the scripts in the movie aside the licensing and monsters. From a movie that produced by Tencent

its something about the Monster Hunter movie, which is produced by TENCENT, a chinese company, which had an asian guy tell a pun about knees and chinese, theres nothing wrong with it its just a lame pun but, mainlanders are butthurt about it and they resort to reviewbombing this game.

dont ask me why they got mad at this specific game that has nothing to do with the movie's production instead of the movie, they're mainland chinese, they dont have logic

The Monster Hunter movie was released in China.

In one of the scenes, there are 2 soldiers driving:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wjbw0dKZeL8
Caucasian soldier: What?
Chinese soldier: Look at my knees! What kind of knees are these?
Caucasian solder: ...
Chinese soldier: Chinese.

This sparked unhappiness from audience as it is part of a racist joke that is very old which goes like:
https://youtu.be/dQAioyDTMA4
The racist element is the making fun of the asian eyes and the fact that asians used to work as indentured labourers and naturally will get their clothes dirtied due to the need to kneel down when doing such work. It is akin to talking to african americans while saying they pick cotton well or something along such lines (no offense to anyone).

As such, this resulted in a number of such audience coming to review bomb the game and bringing up the issue in the game forums even though the issue is with the film and Capcom has no involvement in the writing of the script.

The movie and related wordings of this incident are now supposedly banned in China.

Ahhhh...
Well, I dont really see it racist that much as the Chinese did come over for the labor for a better life, but is it somehow tied into something else?

Ok, thanks for the info everyone, still, it seems a bit silly to get so bothered by a bad joke to the point of causing such a fuss

Just wait for a few days and this will all blow over. Also try to report these threads, they're bloating the GAMING forum with UNRELATED topics and baits

Well, I am no historian but kulies (the actual word is blocked for some reason but ku=cool) weren't really treated with the best conditions.

Probably not as bad as a slave but not really equal footing with the society as well.

So, that's probably where the anger is coming from.

I am of Chinese race myself but even I never heard of the racist joke before. So, I guess to most people, myself included prior to some research, it just seems like a harmless pun especially since the line is delivered by a Chinese actor, making it similar to how African Americans can use the N-word to refer to themselves in their lines.

There was a joke in the MH movie that offended chinese players, so they're review bombing the game. Then a bunch of very unsavory people from the worst boards on 4chan came to the forum and decided to have a go at the chinese players. It's a sh*tstorm, and now the forum is packed with chinese nationalists and racists bogging down the entire forum with their nonsense. I wish it would all just stop.

I read the thread now, and i still think that it's exagerrated to go so far for a joke, which wasn't even capcom faults, and they still got caught in the crossfire
