Trouble with Fatalis
in total i have killed this guy once, with a party of 4, since i wanted the challenge i have fought him solo for over 40 times.
I just cant kill it in time, using 4 piece fatalis with fortify stacked from the start it still times me out.
I mostly use blast longswords but other weapons also time me out.

What do i do????

(the right one) Fire the second one when he charges so basically inmediately after firing the first one.
This will guarantee that all of the cannon shots hit him and he'll fall to the ground. You can then inmediately use a flinch shot on him when he gets back up.
If you use this method the first phase is extremely short.

Between the first phase and the second one you can switch the ghillie mantle out for another one. I recommend using temporal/rocksteady or temporal/fireproof.
Once the second phase begins I recommend using the gatling gun first and then use the farcaster as soon as it's ammo is depleted. If he falls to the ground then you should of course attack him inmediately and use the farcaster afterwards.
Do NOT use the binders during the second phase, safe them for the final phase.
Try to bait the flame cone attack by standing at medium range, this attack is very punishable and you'll definetly need to break the head before the final phase.
Partbreaker really helps a lot so slotting partbreaker 3 is really beneficial to accomplish a headbreak.

The third phase is the hardest one, especially if you haven't broken the head. He has 50% health remaining when this phase starts.
The dragonator becomes available after 5 minutes have elapsed in his third phase if I'm not mistaken. If you can use the dragonator he should already be quite low on health and it usually ends the run for me.
He'll do 3 flame attacks during the last stage. The first one indicates that he is at 40% health, the second one that he is at 20% health and the final one indicates that he only has 5% left.

My average Fatalis run takes about 15-17 minutes. That should probably give you a good estimate, altough it's perfectly fine if it takes a bit longer then that. I'm by no means a speedrunner, so bring along the aforementioned skills and endgame quality armor and weapons and you should have no problem achieving a similar time. Heavy artillery 2, partbreaker 3, fire resistance, agitator and evade extender/booster can definetly help during this fight and I highly recommend using these skills. Divine blessing or recovery up is also an option and it goes without saying that health boost 3 is mandatory. I recommend giving your palico the shieldspire or the vigorwasp, I prefer the shieldspire myself.
Keep in mind that you can stagger him at will by using dragon pods with your slinger.

I hope that this helps! If you want me to take a look at your build then I'd be happy to help you out further. I can also give you a build should you need it. :mhwgood:

fair enough. i usually don't mind a slow dodge if it means i can have 15k dps, but to each their own! =)

Honestly you don’t need to use all the artillery if you don’t want to, the only one that is really useful solo is the roaming ballista because it self-reloads after a while and lets you evade some attacks. What you really need to know down its huge health pool is to successfully wall bang (WB) it.

However, fatalis has two types of WB, the weak one and the strong one. Pay attention at its stance, if its standing on two legs if you try to WB it will just do a weird flinch and smash its head towards the ground dealing very little damage, but this will also put it on four legs. If fatalis is standing on four legs that is when you can do the big damage WB. In general you can do a weak WB while standing on two legs (DONT MAKE IT TURN WITH THE CLUTCH CLAW) and then use a strong WB for maximum damage.

There are two One shot binders that you can use to bring fatalis down when it starts to fly, and if you used all of them that is when you can try and use the roaming ballista and normal ballista shots to make it flinch and knock it down.

And remember, always hit fatalis with both of the dragonator’s “spikes”, each one deals a lot of damage.

The heavy artillery skills does make the fight siginificantly shorter though and it's the first skill that I recommend if the timer is an issue. It can take minutes off of your time and the roaming balista deals a huge amount of damage with this skill.

It makes Fatalis much more manageable as the timer is relatively short for such a strong monster.

This helps alot, Thanks!

Only thing i didn't do was use the cannons, i also forgot to ever cultivate the resources for farcasters, so i think i need to prepare more.

I will update this post once i beat him. Thanks for all the help.

I know about the wallbangs and stances and such, i just have to work on my timing and preperation.

Farcasters are always a nice item to have. If your botanical research is upgraded then you can get a lot of materials extremely quickly so it shouldn't take too long to craft a decent number of them.

I look forward to your update! If you have any further questions then do not hestitate to ask. :mhwgood:

A couple of things with the roaming ballista.

Firstly make sure you tenderise first to increase the damage.

Secondly the chest is the weakpoint for range but you also want to break the head so you need to choose. If you're confident in your ability to break the head without using the ballista on it then aim for the chest chest and unload the ballista there for maximum damage. If you're not confident in breaking the head without using the ballista on it then use it on the head to ensure the double break.

Additionally in the later phases when Fatalis does the 360 firebreath you can avoid it by clutching on to him.
Save the binders for when he flies to get him back down so you can hit him.

You say your using longsword. Try the switch axe, make a zsd spam build with tool specialist 5 + health augment + rocksteady and temporal mantles. It trivialises most of the fight.
SaltHuntress Nov 27, 2020 @ 5:45am
Euhm so yeah, i did it.....!!!!!

With longsword, 4 piece fatalis raging bracydos arms and 1 faint SOLO.

It took almost no time with heavy artillery, like that was so fast.

thanks for al the help everyone!!!!

I'm glad to hear it! Heavy artillery helps massively in this fight!
It gives you so much extra free damage. I think that most people who struggle with the timer overlooked how important this skill is for Fatalis.

Congratulations on your victory over the black dragon of legend! :mhwgood:
