How do you take layered armor off your cat?

It doesnt give me an option when i talk to cat at base.

Your palico doesn't have any layered armor options.

If you want to change his armor you'll have to talk to him in your playerhome if youre in Astera or talk to him when he's near your chest in Seliana. You can also change his equipment in the tent during missions and expeditions.
Simply change his currently equipped armor to the one that you want.

I hope that his answers your question as I think you meant his armor, since palicos do not have layered armor options. Only the player has this option.

Cat is currently wearing layered armor and I want to take it off so its regular armor shows again.

Talk with your cat next to your item box at Seliana and go to change ARMOR, as Maffeketel says, there are no layered armors for your palicos

Is that caused by a mod that adds layered armor to palicos perchance?

Palicos do not have any layered armor options, only the hunter has layered armors.
You can change your palico's armor by talking to him in the locations that I mentioned in my earlier comment.

im not using mods and i know how to change its armor, i can change its armor and it shows right but when i change its armor back to armor i crafted before iceborne even came out its back to a snowsuit...

What is your current mission in the Iceborne story? He might be locked into that armor untill you progress a little bit.
It's been a while since I've progressed through the story of Iceborne, but this might be the cause.

Maybe try equipping new ARMOR after the game forced your cat to wear that ARMOR.

Or you could try trying to convince us that there is actually LAYERED ARMOR for the cat when it has never or it will never exist without a mod.

Yeah its either locked or a bug/feature, guess ill find out soon enough.
