but yeah i wouldn't recommend going to theaters. you wont see past the sea of wiggler helmets.
See, I that trailer, you have a guy running towards diablos, supposedly looking down the scope of his gun, with the wrong eye squinted shut, i don't have my hopes up xD. If they can't figure out how to make using a gun look natural, just wait till you see the dual blade choreography ;D

Looks decent, don't know why people dislike it so much (without even watching it first), it's not like MH is known for it's amazing story so the whole soldiers vs monsters is ok.
It is precisely because there is a lack of story in the first place.

The problem here is really the same as the Hitman movies.

The fun from Monster Hunter and the Hitman games come from the process of tackling the problems the game throws at the players. Nobody's playthrough is going to be exactly the same and creative ideas can be created by players.

The story aspect has always been secondary to the gameplay.

Unfortunately, while the above translates to great games, movies are different. The audience is just there for a ride from start to finish.

So, no matter how well they do this, the movie will be at best be a good Jurassic Park film just like how a good Hitman movie will at best just be a good John Wick movie but using references from the games.

Another issue is the key plot device they are going with which is the isekai or world travelling kind of plot device which in this case seems to be a portal.

As MH players, I am sure we know the monsters don't really have the intellect to build portals so it is likely a portal built by the villain which will be human/wyverian/felyne or whatever species capable of tool building.

As MH players, we also know that the game is not about running/hiding from monsters so this is not gonna be a horror film.

As people, we also know that having dinosaur like creatures in our real world will be disastrous so this portal thing can't be a good thing.

As such, it's quite clear how the plot will mostly play out.

Soldiers unknowingly get pulled to MH world >
soldiers meet the commission (this is where they introduce all the MH related stuff >
characters investigate certain phenomenons that lead to discovery of portal plot device (this is the act where the monster fighting will largely be)>
portal failed to be destroyed (maybe) > monster fighting in real world (maybe), portal destroyed (they could pull a plot twist and turns out portal should be kept open for so and so reason) > main character goes back to real world, sacrifices or chooses to stay.

So, it's gonna fall heavily on the acting and directing to make it great which is something is hit-or-miss in movies.

I don't think it's gonna be good judging by Paul's track record of butchering source materials to get his wife in the leading role, and it's kinda just an Isekai, BUT I do expect to be entertained purely by seeing the monsters being monsters. Won't go out of my way to see it, especially since theaters are the last place I want to be for the next like year. But if I happen to see it on TV or it comes to a streaming service I have I'll give it a watch.

It's the whole "'murica on the scene to dunk on these monsters" thing that gets their jimmies in a twist.

Murica is usually at the center of most movies.

It's because of who's making it. Paul Anderson is basically a poor man's Michael Bay, and he has a bad reputation for always casting his wife as the leading roll in all of his movies. He isn't anywhere near as bad as Uwe Boll, but he also isn't as good as Christophe Gans.

Michael Explosion Bay is a meh director.
She's a decent actress, plus she has done a few video game based movies.

I dislike it exactly because of that. Why make a movie about a game that has awful storytelling? When you take into consideration the people involved in the movie it's a recipe for failure.

Because World sold like hot coffee on a snowy day.
It could be a massive failure, we don't know yet, chances are that it will be just another movie that you watch once and forget about it.

because the whole "the creatures are from some kind of portal" and "lets fight them with our modern military" is probably the most generic thing people do when they make movies about things of which they have little understanding of the source material.

the idea that i need to pay money to go watch the movie before i can dislike it is also pretty insulting. They then have my money. Thats how companies get away with making crap like this.

From what little we have seen it seems like they start trying to fight the monsters with modern weapons and it doesn't work.

You kinda do need to see something to be able to judge it so you can give it a fair review.

absolutely, but when it comes to companies and corporations first impressions are very important. You dont want to reward bad behavior.

I like Mila and also loved the resident evil movies

Story is in the end always same kill the past and hope for a good future...

simply give me some cool effects, monsters and some sexy ladys, so iam pleased
Monsters look good so far and it stars Tony Jaa. Jaa is a great martial athlete so the action has a chance to be good.

Looking forward to one thing.

Watching paul ws anderson butcher another IP by adding hilariously bad dialogue and fight scenes lol

And idk, watching the monsters duke it out could be fun I guess. But no not looking forward to anything with any kind of substance. I think it’ll be dumb but hopefully funny dumb and not dumb dumb

After the amazing lore stuff we got with fatalis people should be grateful if anything, the game felt like a better movie than this trash lol

It looks entertaining and fun, that's all I care about. Resident Evil movies are just like that too, bad and ridiculous, but fun as hell. Sometimes that's really all you need.
