Need some armor advice
I'm trying to put together something vaguely resembling being coherent for normal hunts and hopefully for winning against Alatreon exactly once. So let's see...

Unfortunately I have garbage reflexes, it's been a constant in pretty much every game, so let's be realistic. I can only git so gud. I work with this by never leaving Seliana without two pieces of Goldian gear for that cozy divine blessing 5, and try to fit a health boost 3 in somewhere 'cause that's just common sense these days.

I also kinda prefer to spend my charm and a deco slot on full earplugs. I might be able to go without for Alatreon, but it's such a nice QoL skill to have otherwise.

But yeah, other than that I'm a bit lost. I've got fully upgraded ice kjarr dual blades, and properly upgraded safi fire blades in case Alatreon does go ice, so weapons should be okay. With this in mind (and I know some of you are shaking your heads already, sorry about that), does anyone happen to have any good advice for a build? I don't mind hunts taking a while, but Alatreon doesn't really feel the same.

A good defensive set against alatreon is believe it or not Alatreon set bonus. I don't think u need to kill alatreon to get it, but if u want to speed it up some of the ppl here can carry you.
Other than that, it's just the standard safi armour. You can add in blight resistance 3, and/ add in some elemental resistance where you see fit.

Well, if your final objective for this build is to slay Alatreon, I would recommend Safi armour (+Kjarr weapons) to maximize your elemental damage. 3 pieces of Safi + 2 pieces of goldian armour should be an acceptable compromise between damage and survivability. Just gorge your set with elemental gems and vitality ones.

Keep in mind 2 things: Safi armour feeds on your health, so I think health regen is a must have for you. If Safi armour is not for your taste, switch for Namielle. Never the less, imo regen is a must have for you for this fight. For similar reasons, upgrade your armour to the max: imo, 900-950 physical defence is the entry level.
And because I believe you know how Alatreon fight works (eschaton judgement, elemental dps check, break horns to avoid Alatreon switching element and so on…), I would just suggest to eat for elemental resistance and bringing nulberries to the fight (other than max potions and ingredients to craft them).

Alatreon will slap you silly at first… but never forget: in the end you’ll overcome him.
Happy hunting!

That is remarkably kinder responses than I expected to get, thank you both! I'll admit that Safi's set bonus makes me a bit uneasy, so I'll take a look at Namielle's armor and swap out a bit of elemental damage for health regen on my weapons.

Try to make something like this. https://youtu.be/oBzMjwAecQE?t=183
It's super comfy for fighting alatreon. It does require beating it a few times but you could use your goldian armor or something else instead of alatreon armor. Full safi is also good but you maybe feel too squishy.
Skip to 3min for Ice DB build and 5min for Fire DB build.
I like bringing my MR Kulve armour to his fight. Speed eating + free meal = lots of free heals, including nulberries and astera jerky, and lots of room for atk and crit skills on top of health boost. I think I used a charm for elemental attack boost. and the rest is history
being able to heal your friends is an added bonus :p

I would highly recommend Going with a Safi armor set and weapon over a Kjarr weapon if you're just going for a clean safe kill. The reasoning is that the Safi weapons can do great damage AND have two level 4 decoration slots with upgrades. If you're wanting a safer build you can slot in some great quality of life decorations with Safi weapons while still doing very good damage. Also I would recommend eating for elemental resistance up (L) instead of safeguard. The damage requirements really punish any amount of down time so buffing your resistances and aiming to not die in the first place will make things a lot easier.

Also please use an elemental weapon :| Ice or Dragon specifically if you're still on the Assignment version of Alatreon. The amount of players using blast and paralysis is mind-blowing considering the voice line at the start of the mission literally says that non elemental weapons are useless again him.

I dont know if you are slow for reflexes...how many gaming hours you have?? i started to reaallyy understand the game and to realize the weapons potential after the first 350 hours of gameplay.... to face alatreon after 100 hours of gameplay, should be a overhealming thing....

When you see someone on a youtube video completely annihilating a fight in MHW, usually that player did that "specific" fight, hundreds of times, if not more. If you did 200 tries in alatreon and still didnt got used to his patterns, then i would agree with you on the part of being a little out of the general ability curve.

For dual blades, knowing his moves after several fights, and having 3 evade window for dodges (including the roars), swtching out of the mode the right times for conserving stamina for the said dodges, and the rest is attacking his openings.

If your reflexes are that bad, it is probably better to not be playing with a weapon set where its only defensive mechanic is reliant on the player's reflexes. Maybe you would have better results with a weapon that can block?

Also, the Safi set health drain and Regen isn't as bad as it sounds, as long as you land most of your hits, so avoid spamming demon dance, and you should be alright, in fact, if you land all of your hits, you will heal more then you lose, so it can actually work as healing :D

Add some medicine decos (recovery up) and this increases the healing even more, far overhealing you :D

Get health augment on the weapons, and you have a better Regen build then Val hazak could ever hope to match ;D

Safi armor also give 3 levels of evade window, add a couple more levels for evade window 5, and you don't need to be very good at dodging to still dodge most of alatreon's attacks (you can even dodge his roar this way, letting you give up earplugs)

Safi armor also give 3 levels of crit boost and 40%affinity with weapons drawn, so you only need to get another 60% affinity in skills, which is pretty easy to do :D

In short, I highly recommend the Safi armor, just pair it with recovery up, and it feels great :D

Alternatively, learn a weapon with a shield, then you don't need to dodge anything ;D

I pretty good defensive set to fight Alatreon with is this:

Velkhana Helm B
Goldian Chest B
Goldian Arms B
Velkhana Waist B
Any legs of your choosing (although I do have Furious Rajang legs B in this set)

It does well enough against Alatreon If you're using fire/ice and put in elemental boost

Use blight resist and evasion up .
cronic0_0 Sep 18, 2020 @ 7:41pm
Have you tried using a bow-gun? There is a reason why heavy bowguns with a shield is very popular it's basically easy mode in Monster Hunter world that does really good damage and a heavy bow-gun with a shield is very Tanki and with the bowguns heavy bow-gun or light bow-gun that has both Fire and Ice ammo you do not have to worry about Breakin his horns and laugh as you switch your ammo Elemental type and continue the blasting him... even though you still might want to try to aim for the horn if working with a group because not everybody can just simply switch their Elemental weapon type without carton themselves back to Camp to do so

You could maybe go with a 2 piece Goldian, 3 piece Teostra (for Masters Touch) or 2 Goldian, 3 Safi.

Personally I use 2 Kulve, 3 Teostra for my general purpose comfort build, works well enough on Alatreon if you bring a Kjarr weapon.

Also, for the Charm I would suggest Blight Resist lvl 3. Alatreon does a lot of blights and Dragonblight is super bad in this fight. It's a much more useful QoL skill for this fight than Earplugs.
