Randomely unlocked the friendly felyne costume?

Just noticed that I got this costume unlocked for the handler despite never even bought the costume. Can anyone explain

Handler costume will rotate with the weekly festival celebrations going on. Once they're over it's back to normal unless you purchase and use them yourself. You do get to keep the Poogie costumes though.

The game literally tells you what's going on when going into the gathering hub.

You didn't unlock anything, the Handler outfits are part of the current seasonal festival, but Capcom graciously allowed you to continue to use the event outfit if you cough up some dough and buy the associated DLC in the item store.

For the duration of seasonal festivals though, she'll wear the costume you last "triggered" by visiting either the Celestial Pursuit or the Lunar Terrace - you can swap her out of them at your Housekeeper if you want.

Because it's impossible to miss that with the constant and repeated spam we get upon returning to town. /s There's such an overwhelming information dump and so many event quests you have to spend hours researching which one gets you what.
