That is....really odd, it could be your mouse, next time it happens unplug your mouse, see if it stops, if so, could be a hardware issue...

"Mouse" drift?

Try unplugging and plugging back your mouse.

Also check if you have a controller or mouse connected (maybe wirelessly) that is out of sight.

ive unplugged it 3 times, restarted my computer twice, task manager killed everything but mhw, and it just spins

Do you have a controller? If it's plugged in and your controller is old, it might be drifting. You might want to look into disconnecting it or put the analogue stick in neutral. MHW can take inputs from two sources at once. Remove one.
while there isn't really a solution here, this thread does give some more information on what might be causing it

I was having this same problem with both MH and Warframe.

I'm playing on a wired 360 controller with a mouse and kb plugged in.
Managed to fix it today by going into steam's settings>controller>general controller settings and unchecking 'generic controller configuration support'..

the only box I left checked was 'xbox configuration support' That seems to have stopped the spinning. :)

Happens with controllers. Usually older ones. The sticks drift and no longer return to the exact middle. If the deadzones are set too low it can go over it and start registering as being pushed to a direction. One possible fix is recalibrating and widening the deadzone for that stick but that can affect the functionality if it has drifted too far.
Dunno what is causing it if you don't have a controlled plugged in
