Fatalis Investigation
I was looking at Events to do Fatalis and I get a red notification that tells me to complete Fatalis investigation first. What is Fatalis investigation?

You need to talk to some NPC and then do a special assignment where you kill an Alatreon. Then you talk to some more NPC's. You then are able to fight fatalis, but you can only do it in multiplayer ones you've beating the first stage solo.

By "Investigation," it means "Special Assignment." Speak to the Field Team Leader in Seliana. You will have to fight a heavily weakened Alatreon (as in, heavily lowered health bar. Will likely die before the first Escaton judgement. Thought my team had a damage cheater when I did this quest). Then, you will be placed through a number of cutscenes, before you unlock the Special Assignment "The Black Dragon."

I think the gate to the event was so that those participating in the event know anyone else they see doing the event has already beaten Fatalis at least once and are past the "learning phase". It's frustrating when someone is too timid to keep attacking and/or constantly being hit for most of their health and potentially using the groups carts/heals. This is expected for the special assignment as whoever is hosting the assignment has yet to actually beat Fatalis, but when you're farming for armor and want to do so in a group it's best to know the group already knows what they're doing.

Yeah. It isn't 100% foolproof though. I'm below MR 100, and I was able to pass the threshold and get to phase 2.

Edit: There also is a thing of note. If you join a Special Assignment Fatalis, you get 2 extra carts. However, you are also playing with someone who hasn't beaten Fatalis yet, so it's a double-edged sword.
