everyone thinks they have enough honey
until they dont
Slots 1 and 2 should be Herbs and Honey. While you can get a lot, it's always a good idea to have more.
Slot 3 can be used for utility stuff. You'll likely switch it out a lot. Play a few rounds with it set to flashbugs, then exciteshrooms and smokenuts for Farcasters, Thunderbugs for traps, basically just use it for things that you can use to keep your hunting toolkit stocked.
Hunting toolkit (by my definition):
Full set of Potions and Mega Potions
10 Herbs + 10 Honey for backup potions
Full stack of Flash Bugs and Flash Pods (Particularly important if dealing with flying monster, less important if in Master Rank)
Full stack of Trap Tools, as well as the Traps themselves (please note the specific monster and their reaction to certain traps: Some monsters will not fall into Pitfall Traps unless certain conditions are fulfilled, like with Nargacuga, and sometimes Shock Traps will charge the monster you are trying to catch, like with Zinogre. Also note: Don't bring these on an Elder Dragon hunt. Can help with Raging Brachydios, but I don't think they will work during its last stand)
Dung Pods (somewhat optional, but recommended if monsters that like to interfere with hunts such as Deviljho or Bazelguese are around in order to chase them off from interfering if you don't want to deal with them.)
Consider bringing Lifepowder when you're on a multiplayer hunt.
ALWAYS bring a Farcaster, and it's a good idea to bring the materials for more. Always good if you're in a really bad spot, yet are still able to escape. (Note: Farcasters are disabled in the event of an 1-shot Nuke attack like Ecliptic Meteor, Escaton Judgement, or Sapphire of the Emperor, and it is also disabled during Raging Brachydios' last stand.)
As I don't play ranged weapons, I don't know how much the ammo matters, but if you are in need of additional ammo, plant the respective resource until you have a comfortable amount of ammo, I guess.
This was the type of advice I was looking for, thank you a lot!
Then every once in awhile I'll do Blu mushrooms + mandagora for max potions :)
But as a Gunner, very often I'm growing ammo :D
