However I do believe the charm can go up to V/5, with Iceborne anyway.
its like people who just use the defender weapons and wonder why the game is so easy, didnt read ANYTHING about them when the game explicitly explains what they are for.
Defender gear rant is not the focus of this OP, but they never explained the fact I can't upgrade my charms if I don't buy an expansion I don' really need at this point.
this.
there are many skills that will make you a better player then trying to just make your self tanky.
null berries- quick cure for when you get blighted.
Immunity mantle - don't sleep on this mantle. its actually pretty good, it can cure pretty much any affliction and prevent them from happening again while you are wearing it. with the upgrades that happen to mantles in iceborne it becomes even better.
eg. fighting kirin and struggling with thunder blight, you could bring immunity mantle and thunder proof to double down on not getting thunder blighted
Health boost - lvl 3 health boost is pretty meta. if you don't have it already, this will give you way more bang for buck then slotting in defense. on top of eating for more total health during a hunt or eating a max potion at the start of each hunt if your food skills did not give you heath.
evasion/ evade distance - I have both maxed out on my comfy set, its so comfy i don't have health boost on it. Evasion adds more i-frames to your roll so it becomes super easy to avoid attacks, roll roars, roll pretty much anything. Evade Distance makes you roll further and makes it easier to get out the way of attacks. i feel it helps for some weapons to keep glued to the monster as you don't need to put your weapon away, just a roll or 2 goes a long way.
you can start practicing with the clutch claw
you can get the raider ride feature unlocked which can help speed things up as your learning (its also a free jumping attack on your target)
and lots of other little things.
my advice though for your ele res problem, unlock and bring the mantles that resist specifically what you need resistance to per fight. otherwise, practice not getting hit. skills like evade distance and evade window are much more preferable to a defense charm for this reason.
