Frostfang Barioth Tips?
I'm aware I'll probably sound like a scrub by posting this, but I don't really care right now. I just need some advice. I saw the FF Barioths gunlance and decided I really want it. I went into a co-op mission last night with a friend and we pretty much got destroyed. Decided to try it solo and not much changed. Got my ♥♥♥ handed to me. Thing is I'm seeing people saying it's too easy which leads me to believe I'm either too weak or just really REALLY bad at this fight (which is entirely possible considering my track record with this game)

Strategy so far has been go in, hit it against the wall, get some slinger ammo and use the spike for extra damage and unload the normal shelling combo as much as possible. (Using gunlance if that wasn't clear). Put a trap down if necessary to keep it still to either get the spike in or just unload some free damage. That part usually goes off without a hitch, but after that I just die in maybe one or two hits. I rarely have enough time to recover and often get stuck in the ice which I've found usually just means death.

Gear: Uragan braces and greaves (b+) and Zora (a+) for everything else. Gunlance is usually Highness's Fury (No idea what this thing is weak to so) My current MR is 69

So my question is, how should I be approaching this monster? Do I need to use a different strategy or am I just too low level/bad?

I'd also accept help if anyone is willing to offer, but I'd still like to know how to deal with this thing. I don't mind having help, but if I shouldn't even be fighting this thing yet I don't want to just be carried.

Thanks in advance.

Update: Got the gunlance with the help of Polaris and Faust Wither (You guys are awesome)
On a related note, I found actually enjoy this fight with a team. Not to say it couldn't have been enjoyable solo, but it's less stressful with allies. I think I just need to git gud.

Hi,
Imo, the best strategy to fight FFB is made of 3 elements:

1) Use an elemental set with fire: Barioth is weakest to it and abusing his weak points remain your best bet for defeating him
2) Aim true: the danger Barioth poses, is caused mainly by the combination of his high mobility and his icy crowd control. Destroy his front paws first and foremost: in doing so, you’re sealing half of his strength.
3) Synergizing with the point above, use traps (shock and pitfall) to immobilize him as often as needed, as a window of opportunity to deal focused damage or simply as a breathing room to heal. 😊

Happy hunting!
Don't forget about Flash pods to give you some breathing room to heal and also during his enraged will help you deal with him better.

OP if you're having problems when he goes enraged flashpod and run away and come back after he calm down. You have plenty of time if you feel that it's necessary to do so. And make sure you are getting the canteen Buffs like felyne insurance and Moxie. And if you do not have fortitude jammed in one of your sockets do so

All u need to do break 1 hand at a time each gives u free stun and will slow him down after both hands go for head should be dead after breaking head fangs.
Here's a few quick tips I found when fighting him (using a switchaxe). If he's going to shoulder-check you, dodge toward his tail. If he's going to swing his tail around, dodge toward his head (ideally get behind it). A number of his attacks you actually want to dodge FORWARD into him, so you end up under his chest. His close range arc ice snare attack can be dodged by dodging forward under him, for example. Remember that when he's enraged, he'll smash into the ground twice in a row, watch out for it.

If you're still having problems avoiding his attacks, I really recommend slotting in evade extender. You don't need all 3 ranks of it, 2 ranks of EE has most of the benefits (though I myself use 3). It's really helpful to get out of the way of Barioth's attacks, as with a switchaxe I can sidehop or roll and be out of the way of most of his wide, sweeping attacks, and a sidehop is enough to dodge his line snare attacks..

People saying FF is too easy are more than likely late game, and FF is not a late game monster.
bring traps and fight him inside the cave, he moves a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. DON'T fight him in the entrance (the narrow part of the cave), people keep doing that knowing that he moves a lot and die, costing the team a life. Personally, don't like rocksteady, he ground slams twice when you're stuck in his ice.
He is very very mobile. Even with the regular Barioth, slow moving weapons will have the hardest time against it. With the Frostfang, its worse because your shield will not help you with its chilling attacks, so I think its really fine if youre having a hard time against it using a Gunlance.
.
Easy way to deal with it is to use more mobile tactics, Critdraw GS with max evade extender is a brain dead tactics for me. All you have to do is Critdraw > Roll > Sheath > Reposition > Reapeat... Dont have to do anything else.
.
If you really want to do it with GL (I have not tried it), maybe consider back hop tactics and keeping close to his side always. Dont chase it, (it will chase you lol). Save your timing and stamina to predict and hop to his side whenever it dives close.
just git gud
