Frostfang Barioth Tips?
I'm aware I'll probably sound like a scrub by posting this, but I don't really care right now. I just need some advice. I saw the FF Barioths gunlance and decided I really want it. I went into a co-op mission last night with a friend and we pretty much got destroyed. Decided to try it solo and not much changed. Got my ♥♥♥ handed to me. Thing is I'm seeing people saying it's too easy which leads me to believe I'm either too weak or just really REALLY bad at this fight (which is entirely possible considering my track record with this game)

Strategy so far has been go in, hit it against the wall, get some slinger ammo and use the spike for extra damage and unload the normal shelling combo as much as possible. (Using gunlance if that wasn't clear). Put a trap down if necessary to keep it still to either get the spike in or just unload some free damage. That part usually goes off without a hitch, but after that I just die in maybe one or two hits. I rarely have enough time to recover and often get stuck in the ice which I've found usually just means death.

Gear: Uragan braces and greaves (b+) and Zora (a+) for everything else. Gunlance is usually Highness's Fury (No idea what this thing is weak to so) My current MR is 69

So my question is, how should I be approaching this monster? Do I need to use a different strategy or am I just too low level/bad?

I'd also accept help if anyone is willing to offer, but I'd still like to know how to deal with this thing. I don't mind having help, but if I shouldn't even be fighting this thing yet I don't want to just be carried.

Thanks in advance.

Update: Got the gunlance with the help of Polaris and Faust Wither (You guys are awesome)
On a related note, I found actually enjoy this fight with a team. Not to say it couldn't have been enjoyable solo, but it's less stressful with allies. I think I just need to git gud.

You'll want a lot of ice resist for F.Barioth.

The problem with guarding weapons like Gunlance is that the ice floor attack is designed to make you a sitting duck. I'd recommend you to change your weapon.

Also, don't worry about all the people saying it's an easy monster, those comments are from endgame hunters who dealt with Alatreon, which by comparison makes F.Barioth look like a joke in comparison. F.Barioth is still definitely hard for newer hunters.

Keep practicing, hunter.

1) Lvl 5 evade distance can be a life saver for GL. His sub-zero breath is unblockable so dont try it.

2) Do not try to hit his face with the clutch claw to change his direction. This will enable you to do 3 wallbangs. (I advise temporal mantle for this)

3) Try upgrading your gl or get 1 that you can augment (rarity 10 or 11 for your MR)
Health on hit augment is amazing.
Ps also upgrade -> augemt -> upgrade your armor

4) life booster works realy well in that tight cave he spawns just plant it down when you have a chance and corner camp.

5) Eat for ele resistance.

6) breaking his head reduces the ice breaths while breaking his arms make him stumble after every launch attack.

7) Use sleep for extra wallbangs (you can give your cat a sleep weapon)

8) Unleash your inner ork and commence DAKKA!

If you always get hit use divine blessing lv5 but i dont think you can farm gold rath yet, but lv 3 already help too, and blight resistance really help.

I think that was a D/C let's try again
Don't step on the ice trails
Crush the forearms so he isn't as cat like
Watch out for that head butt ice its very fast he will usually spam it a lot (twice in a row at times)

Don't bother with Elemental Resist, you can just pop the thawpuffs for +50 Ice resist if you really need it. He doesn't have much Health so I just recommend the usual strategy for all non-Elder Dragons > Flinch Shot when not enraged and save mounts and traps during enrage. That should be enough to get it to start crawling after 10 mins.
Recel Aug 7, 2020 @ 10:35am
The things you need to watch out for the most are his various ice breaths. Especially when enraged.

When enraged if he misses you with the forward sticky ice breath he will shoot another one which is aimed ahead of you, so don't just mindlessly dodge/run. If he does his high jumping head slam attack, he will repeat it right after, so if you get hit by it, do not get up immedietly. Stay down and wait the second one out.
Also, pack a nullberies. Also I'd advice to pack mega nutrients and madragora mushrooms and max pills. This way you have a total of seven fast, full heals.

Are your armors and weapons all augmented and fully levelled? The majority of people who call any monster "easy" have maxed out gear. With the right gear, Frost Fang barrioth does barely any damage. Put on stun resist 3 and you'll get back up from all his attacks without much consequences.

Make sure not to rush getting back up after he knocks you down. Observe and wait until he does another attack before getting back up. It's pretty easy to solo with longsword since most of his attacks could be countered, except for that stupid ice move.

1. Get ice resistance up to about at least 20 a full custom canteen vegetable meal will give you an a very nice Elemental resistance boost. With an elemental resistance of 20 and or above will make you immune to whatever blight to that element therefore no need for nullberries

2. First thing you should focus on is breaking his legs the two front ones when they are broken he will stumble around after every attack which really slows him down and make him a lot less aggressive and more manageable.

And watch this video movesets are exactly the same as the ones in this video except for a couple of breath weapons and most everything else is pretty minor

Hi,
Imo, the best strategy to fight FFB is made of 3 elements:

1) Use an elemental set with fire: Barioth is weakest to it and abusing his weak points remain your best bet for defeating him
2) Aim true: the danger Barioth poses, is caused mainly by the combination of his high mobility and his icy crowd control. Destroy his front paws first and foremost: in doing so, you’re sealing half of his strength.
3) Synergizing with the point above, use traps (shock and pitfall) to immobilize him as often as needed, as a window of opportunity to deal focused damage or simply as a breathing room to heal. 😊

Happy hunting!
