Eat x4 yellow ingredients (Artillery), they are at the very bottom.
Use a food voucher or gourmet to make sure you get the skill bonus.
as for stacking it with stuff like Guts, that I understand, but since I'm not using the Lunastra Guts HH anymore like in base game and since using anything other than guts in IB as well as other gadgets on the Palico (assuming that vigor gadget's "revive" can also cancel Moxie), even with all that, I would always just cart when I get low to 0 health from a fatal hit even though I had Moxie.
That made me wonder if it was a fresh ingredients sort of thing, or a chance for Moxie to activate, which is why I stopped using it.
edit: just tested it again and like before, if I'm low health it just doesn't activate and no, it wasn't a DoT status because I was fighting a Rajang in the arena and there weren't 2 hits in there either, because if there were 2 hits, I'd still get the message "Felyne Moxie skill has been activated", which I didn't get that at all.
There is probably a hidden rule to this mechanic that makes it activate only if you're above like 35 - 65% health, or maybe that rule for its activation applies for moves that deal a lot of damage and you were low enough on health for that to be a fatal hit.
I'll try it out in MR Tempered hunts, those are the ones I haven't done much of yet, maybe in there this will work as advertised.
If Insurance available, get it and join some tempered randos SOS.

And then blackbelt and sharpshooter :)
Cause i need those two with a bow
Having said that, my personal favorite buff to get is elemental resistance, since my armor sets tend to dip pretty far into the negatives for some elements. A little bit extra toughness is always nice. But again, only if I can get it with maxed HP and stamina.
Safeguard for helping randoms
Zoomaster if hunting rare endemic life/achievement s
Black belt/sharpshooter for bow runs
Mostly just eat chefs choice for health/stamina increases without used a voucher.
Why without having to use items?
Chef's Choice when I am just doing any content - I know that's not optimal but to be honest, I am just eat for the HP and Stamina buff.
Veggie Platter when I am fighting Kirin, Teostra, Lunastra, and basically just any monsters that are heavily elemental based.
Open Road Platter when I am fighting something I know there is a chance either my teammates (who will be randoms from SOS) or me may cart from. This is the platter for Felyne Safeguard. Usually, I only use this for the hardest content because I don't really wanna spend my tickets even though I have quite decent amount.
Blackbelt for Bow
Lucky Cat if farming for rewards.
Safeguard if we're down to 1 cart or we lost multiple carts early on in a long hunt like Kulve.
If I don't want anything specific I usually eat either Chef Choice or just anything that gives attack up L
because steamworks fills you with them like you wouldnt believe lol.
Sure it takes a little bit more time and collecting, but I just bring 5 mega nutrients and eat the quest rations every quest. Or have energy drinks on hand. I have them in my box regardless since carting removes those buffs anyways and I'd have to pick them up.
