GPU 0% USAGE
Hi guys i recently returned to monster hunter world after not playing it for 6 months or so but now i have come across an issue. This issue being that i am stuck under 40 fps no matter high or low settings. When i am on monster hunter world i am using around 0%GPU load and around 40% CPU load. I tracked this with the NZXT software. Has anyone else had similar issues? And does anyone have any recommendations / fixes for this issue. Please help i really want to play again.

This situation has come up before where MHW can sometimes cripple someones CPU. I'm not sure of the fix myself, but I know there's something you can do on your end to correct it rather quickly.

I did a quick search and the link below might help.

Uh, you sure you've got the hdmi/displayport cable plugged into your gpu and not the motherboard? Simple mistake to make that happens more than you might think.

No i do not have it plugged into the motherboard, when i play different games for example i was playing Hunt Showdown, quite an intensive game and it runs perfectly fine 100+ FPS on max graphics, i've only had this issue on MHW for some strange reason.

Check your graphics settings in game to see if it's actually using your GPU. Look for the resolution box, it should look like [ (Geforce 2060 RTX) 1920x1080 ] or something similar.

Had to double check. Like I said, it happens.

I haven't actually used NZXT's software. Does it have an overlay so you can actively monitor cpu/gpu usage without tabbing out of the game?

Yeah i appreciate it, offering solutions is always helpful need as many as i can get as of right now. And yes you can monitor it whilst it is on my other screen.

Have you tried tweaking some settings in the Nvidia control panel OP? I got 2 suggestions that could possibly work:

1. In Nvidia control panel, go into Configure Surround/PhysX and change PhysX settings to your GPU. Also, go into Manage 3D settings -> select Program Settings tab -> select MHW.exe -> select GPU as preferred graphics processor.

2. Assuming you're running Win10, go into Settings -> search for Graphics Settings -> click Browse under "Choose an app to set preference" and choose MHW.exe -> click the app icon in the setting window and select Options -> set graphics preference to the one you're GPU is assigned to (probably high performance).

Hope that fixes your issue.

Also, is it just me, or are people with RTX 2060 having a lot of issues with this game lately in the past few months?

I'm also running RTX 2060 (with i7-9750H + 16 GB RAM). This was me last week. I passed out and woke up to this while farming for whetfish scales:

Random crashes, stutters, fps drops (which can range from 10-20 on 60 fps cap, or 30-50 on 90 fps cap), Err08s, etc. I get the feeling it's the latest Nvidia driver not playing nicely with the game, but Idk. I can't rollback either, so I can't confirm my suspicions.

I find it somewhat odd your dlss line is greyed out. Are you on a really old nvidia driver version or something?

I am currently going through your step no.1 however where is the "select GPU as preferred graphics processor." setting? i cant seem to find it. Here is a screenshot of where i am currently

That setting only shows up if you're on a laptop with an auto switching onboard gpu+dedicated gpu.

Ah okay, well i don't know what to do :( seems like i wont be able to play MHW for a while.

Well, just to see what happens, try deleting your config file and then running the game to re-create it.

Is Task Manager showing you the same CPU / GPU usage as NZXT when MHW is running?
