You can test it in the training area pretty quickly if you need to.
The clutch claw attack of the same type where you spin through the air isn't affected by the skill though, and isn't considered an aerial attack...as far as I know. You can't mount with that attack, anyway.
I suspect this to be more viable for Greatsword once we get Frozen Barioth armor.
Pretty fun stuff
At least...I think so? Should test it in the training area to be sure, because I don't think I ever paid attention to the follow up hits.
Test this in the guiding lands, summon a silver rathalos in the coral region. The area is perfect for sliding and silver will never leave so unlimited spins (if tempered, a good way to farm great spiritveins)
Against one of the barrels in the training area without the gem I was doing 35 damage per spin hit with 141 damage as the finishing blow.
With the gem I was doing 45 damage per rotation but still hit 141 on the finishing blow.
Both tested at the same sharpness level and recorded without affinity altering hits
But yeah, affinity sliding + airborne with the slide attack is tasy. iirc I was doing ~200 damage p/hit against some monsters, such as mr kulve. And yes, it was epic.
