Element Hammer/GS
I played about 1000h and never used Element weapons specificly. Is it worth making a Hammer/GS Element Build? I heard that these Raw DPS weapons are useless with element but does this actually be the truth?

It can work with heavier weapons, though. It's just those weapons derive more from the motion values for their big hits, like the Hammer and Greatsword, and so they favour raw much more than elemental, but really, anything works. Far as I know, motion values multiply the raw damage but not elemental, so a Greatsword isn't gaining anything more from a big True Charge to a monsters face than from a quick draw attack from its element, whereas with its raw damage there's quite a noticeable difference. I think..?

Hammer has a few attacks that are suitable for elemental attacks, like the spinning charge attack and the slide spin, which hit rapidly and for many smaller hits that can be augmented by the elemental damage on the Hammer itself, etc.

At least, that's what I tell myself. I honestly don't know if I'm right, it's just how I've always viewed it.

Since Iceborne has kinda already kicked non-elemental boost users in the balls, especially Hammer users, you may as well consider whipping together an elemental build or two. You only REALLY need one for Alatreon, everything else dies just the same. If you took the time to build a counter elemental Hammer build for every monster I.E using an Ice Hammer for Diablos, it'd probably be acceptable....but the problem is WHY you'd do this in the first place, when it's sadly just as easy to grab a Lightbreak Hammer and just beat everything with your one-size-fits-all set.

And now there's layered weapons, all those badass elemental Hammer designs you could never use before are available even on your ugly meta-Hammer so even that excuse for using elemental or status has been diminished, lol.

All weapons are useful. Don't just look at dps or the meta. Just use whatever u like.

Both GS and Hammer can work with element. If you want to build for Alatreon, just grab your normal DPS Hammer build, swap out the weapon to an Ice or Fire hammer, and fit in some elemental attack deco's if you got space left and you should be good.

Same story for GS really, but most use a Velkhana critdraw build on this fight with it since it's just easier.

Slow and heavy weapons like GS don't do well with elemental.

Generally speaking, you're right, slow weapons like the hammer and GS are horrible for elements.

Against Alatreon, you can use these weapons with elements and still win. I don't think the average hunter can do it, but it is possible.
