Is there a point of Poison?
I used Poison alot in the older games, but in world it doesnt seem as effective. Anyone have any thoughts or knowledge on the matter?

It's useful but not exactly high value. It was largely ignored except for Xeno'Jiiva in the base game, and then saw a resurgence thanks to it being buffed slightly in Iceborne, and the fact that before pre-additional monsters such as Safi'Jiiva and Rajang etc, some of the best weapons in the game were Gold Rathian ones, which were naturally Poison status, along with her armour offering True Critical Status as well, etc.

Once new weapons got added though it got put back at the bottom of the pile, though. I think people have mentioned that it tires out the monster somewhat or makes them more prone to stagger, but I dunno so much about that.

poison got a pretty high nerf in world, because you cannot aply anymore poison if a monster is already poisonned unlike older games.

Poison smoke bombs can do a little bit of damage and that's about it for poison.

Yeah really Poisons best real use is for smoke bombs, as Lumika mentioned - it lets you easily kill Vespoids and Hornetaurs without breaking their fragile bodies so you can carve them. Can be achieved with the Entomologist Level 3 skill, though. Or, poison ammo for bowguns.

Really thought it's bottom of the barrel for Status. Sleep and Paralysis are much more useful, and Blast is rather meh too, but Poison is far and away the worst, in my opinion.

Depends on the fight, for Safi jiva? It's great, your talking 2000 damage per proc, but its often not worth bringing a poison weapon, as you can't build up the next poison proc while they are poisoned, so it's a lot of downtime, it's better to just bring poison smoke bombs, on Safi, it usually only takes 3 for the first proc, 6 for the second, if everyone brings them, that's 2 really easy poison procs, without much effort, makes a poison weapon a little redundant

In Iceborne they buffed it so it is decent. Probably not as main but throw it on your pet as it will trigger it on the enemy when you're solo or with a friend.

Yeah, with a Safi weapon running Rathian Essence (regular or gold), you can get True Crit Status and Poison Duration Up. And with a fast weapon like SnS/DB/SA/IG/HH, you can get 3-4 procs per hunt. It may not be meta, but it's a fun playstyle to mess around with. Don't get me wrong though, your dps is still going to be good, since you'll still be dealing damage even when you're not on the monster.

It's especially useful for some monsters like KT, Safi, or Shara. Without Poison Duration Up, KT takes like 1.4k dmg per proc, Safi takes 2k, and Shara takes 2.4k. You still want to bring poison bombs too, since they'll help build up status quickly once the threshold increases.

I would argue that in safi, poison is not really something you want to bring unless you are specifically going for the kill. That fight relies on breaking parts and poison is heath pool damage.

That's a fair point. It's more optimal to run Elderseal for the first few runs where you drain the energy and break parts, then have 1 user running a poison weapon (or have everyone bring poison bombs) for the kill run.

I mainly use it when we need him to drain energy and the clock is running thin, or at the start of a siege (I usually go with ransoms, and clearing on the first attempt is very rare for me)
