It's been so long, but I think I ran Nergigante Y gear and some other stuff. I never touched Drachen, but it's considered pretty much the meta for every weapon thanks to the stuff on it, if I recall Critical Eye and Attack Boost heavy focus, etc.

Gala gear was also useful, along with some of Kulve Taroths stuff, too. I remember one of Kulve Taroths head pieces being extremely efficient for Stun Resistance. Xeno'Jiiva Y was great as well, for the Critical Boost skill.

It's been too long but honestly, you're basically looking for Drachen armour and some / most of the Gamma armour from killing Arch Tempered Elder Dragons.

Of course, it'll depend on your weapon and your choice of playstyle. Here's an old screenshot I have of the build I used for my end game Charge Blade in High Rank - I don't think it was meta, because I liked quality of life skills such as Stun Resistance and such:

Sorry I can't be more helpful, I've forgotten what High Rank felt like at this point. I don't even remember what was so special about that set that caused me to screenshot it, either. I'm guessing it was all about spamming SAED, though.

The best armor is to stop being stingy and get the one of the best DLC in gaming history already.

one of my favorite was vaal beta. used it with CB quite long. after that, pretty much teostra + kulve + drachen. I think i used bezelguise too for guard point practice.

Chill, there are most definitely reasons why OP wasn't able to get it.
If you're willing to buy it for him, then fair game, but if not then understand that OP probably doesn't have an 10 figure job and 50 mansions like you do, and instead he's like the rest of us: only able to spend money on games when we have spare funds.

You get Gamma versions after you kill a few Arch Tempered Elder Dragons (each).

TBH, the best sets are mixed to give you the skills you need, nothing wrong there with 3+2, esp. that changing armor before the misssion is typical, unless you feeel very comfy with the 'dream set' whatever it means.

TBPH, the armor kinda sucks and it really deosnt matter if you have Defense at 391 or 411, it will not save your sorry skin from your mistakes and combat mechanics set against you.

In general tho, get all ED sets (Xeno, Luna, Teo, Kush, Vaal, Nerg, Kirin, Behemoth, Zorah, Lesh) and the n Gamma versions. But for many reasons you might be wanting to use Bazel, Odo/Dodo and some single pieces (Eyepatch, etc.).

Mix is best with skills you need and make you efficient in combat. End of story.
