Hey! Yeah, you! Wanna learn about Switch Axe?
Hey! From clicking this, you were probably curious about what this thread was about? Well, it's about Switch Axe, an amazing weapon that's fun to use and not brain dead like Charge Blade or Long Sword.
Maybe you just got the game for Christmas and were looking to see what weapon you should use? Maybe you're playing through World again on a new character, and want to pick a new weapon? Maybe you've seen all the juicy buff Switch Axe got in Iceborne, and wanna see what the hub bub is all about? Well, I wrote a little handy guide for that:
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1591169533
Now this isn't a guide that tells you how to do Heavenly Upward Slash or Overhead Chop or anything like that. It explains how Switch Axe works, breaking down the complexity of phials, and what Switch Axes are worth using and why. The guide is also up to date with Iceborne information, so info seen is using the 1.10 Patch numbers, and includes the best Switch Axes for Iceborne, including the DLC updates! So check it out, and try out a Switch Axe today! :cozymhw:

What you make you guys think like that? HH is pretty normal, pretty much like any other weapon.
To make damage you must doot.
If you doot you are vulnerable for a long time compared to other weapons.
To make good damage you must chain doots. First doot has 4 directions. If you chain it you get 5 special attacks (standing still + directions). You want to hit with them as well.

Conclusion: Mastering HH requires:
- perfect timing (because of your huge window of vulnerabality)
- perfect positioning (you want to hit with every attack for your doot build up, based on the different chorus you want to play)
- perfect chaining (after perfect positioning and perfect timing you must use the right direction for your chain to evade the next attack while you arer at your 2nd or 3rd doot, you basically move and dodge while chaining)

Watching good HH players is somewhat surreal. Especially in teams where the monster becomes unpredictable. Some people can chain doots near the weak spots and dodge attacks while doing so. Meeting such HH players is very rare.

So yea it is not that hard to play HH but it is extremely hard to play it effectively and on high skill.

As for Switch Axe. I loved this weapon in previous games but can not get the hang of it in MHW. I tried evade extender 3 but it feels just sluggish and I get hit... a lot.
The new attacks they gave HH in Iceborne make it super flashy, like how the clutch claw attack you essentially T-Pose before smashing your doot in, and the spinning bubble attack.

For SA, you dont really need Extender any more. Axe Form really is more mobility friendly, especially in Iceborne, and you really have to Switch Forms a lot.
