To all the people commenting Divine Slasher is the only viable Longsword.
Please remember that to make Divine Slasher work, you need a Handicraft 3 Charm, a Non-Elemental Boost gem, and a Protective Polish gem. And either Whetfish Fin+ stacks or Speed Sharpening 3, in order to make it actually good. And some of that stuff is actually super rare or just a ♥♥♥♥♥ to farm up.

Yeah, it's the best longsword when fully decorated, but for someone who just hit tempered monsters, it's not gonna be as good as Extermination's Edge or Calamity "Reaver", which take a lot less decorations to get running (or in extermination's edge, is basically as good out of the box as it's ever gonna get)

Or just, you know, play with any weapons that are decent enough to slay the monsters.

It's not like this game is hard or anything anyway.

Use what you want, it's a game, why do you care what some meta boy says about your weapon? They are running metas for a reason.

I'm saying this because when people comment on threads where people are blatantly saying they don't have access to high end decos yet, saying to get Divine Slasher, they're giving really bad advice.

The Divine Slasher is great, no doubt about it but using other variations of weapons can be nearly as good.
I have a Val Hazak Long Sword Setup (yes it's double augmented though) but I can kill a Nergigante in slightly less time, and I have a Blast Element Long sword setup that I have killed Tempered Kushala Dora with solo in under 5 minutes.
I mean sure, it may be the most well rounded for overall use but other long swords definitely have their place to shine.

Also, min-maxing in this game isn't super important unless you're speed running a boss and if you're in a group you're likely not doing that, so long as the group is participating, using an approporiate weapon for the fight (example would be not using a electric element against Kirin, lol) not dying off a lot I don't see why anyone should complain about other people's gear.

Legia looks better, use that instead! In the end, it's all about style :steamhappy:

You don't even need whetfish fin if you have protective polish gem.
Assuming you're soloing a monster, you'd usually kill it before your sharpness turns green at Handicraft Lv5 and Protective polish.

Exterminator's Edge is just crap now. Calamity is a very close second if you compare it to Divine Slasher. The reason being the two Augment, high elderseal and just obnoxiously high raw.

I personally use Divine Slasher on solo play where I could kill target monsters in 3 minutes average. While I use Calamity for co-op and SOS stuff.. Augmenting it with Health Regen and Affinity just makes me immortal to HP-draining status ailments and don't even have to use potions, increasing my DPS higher than I usually do with Divine Slasher.

So TL;DR:
- Divine Slasher is still the best right now DPS-wise
- Calamity is just as good. DPS-wise just a tiny bit lower but provides a lot of utility
- Exterminator's Edge is crap, don't even craft it now.Just stick to Calamity or Divine Slasher.

If you're into the point in endgame where your choice of weapon actually matters you should have all of these and more.
Divine slasher at blue is still better than exterminations edge. Calamity is neck and neck with divine slasher though and actually outperforms it on dragon weak monsters.

Death Stench Heel, Kushala Chest, Handicraft Charm. Also Protective Polish is optional. If you haven't killed a monster after expending your blue sharpness at 3+ Handicraft then you are definitely doing something wrong.
I mean, the idea is to keep the sharpness at white since thats 10% more damage than blue. It's a lot easier to do that with calamity.

Why?
As a DB users the only monster where sharpness is an issue is Uragaan (and only when I fight it in an area where I can spam slide attacks).

I'm not saying you're wrong or anything but I was under the impression that DB were the weapons that ate through sharpness the most quickly and I'm curious to understand why it should be an issue for LS.
LS burns through sharpness fairly fast. Divine slasher only gets like 25 hits of white. Having not white sharpness is a significant damage loss. Significant enough as to make it better to use a different weapon.

That's true enough but the meta boys who look for min/max weapons should take into account about the decorations anyway so it's their own fault they are getting the wrong information.
It's common sense about what weapons to use, I wouldn't worry about metas until you have a comfortable amount of decorations and fancy making several builds because it's fine taking advice for a class you don't use.
