Close Range Coating (Bow)
I've been playing Bow with Close Range coating for a while now and got a 3* slot free to use.
Now the question is does it get more dmg via Normal Shot Jewel or Spread jewel? Cant seem to find an answer to that.

Or should i just get the Jewel for Additional Charge?

I havent bothered with this on ps4 before but now i do. sadness

If you're using a bow with no power coats (ie only close range) then power shots is a better deco since the coat will maximize your damage for the end of your string, the power shot will be the shot with the max charge. (dash shoot dash shoot dash power shots). Take note this means being close to a monster, which you may not want, I suggest getting Normal shots either via jewel or from Diablos Legs.

The thing I rarely get to use is bow charge plus. Normally you get close enough to your target by the 2nd dash so adding a third dash to the string increases your risk that the monster might knock you out of position or you won't be in a good position to maximize the splash.

Normal shot jewel is only a ~7% damage increase. I haven't tested the power shot but if you use it at all i recon that gem would be better. Overal I think the additional charge is the best, if you have that.

if your doing lots of rapid or power shots, the extra bow charge is good if your not using either one exclusively. but if your focused on elemental bows a normal shot jewel would be best.

close range coating isnt modified by any skill though, just the types of shots you fire with it.
Lol don't mind me, subscribing to this thread, trying to learn Bow as well.
*Whistles*
Also i don't use close range coating at all but if you are using that it's a no-brainer that the spread shot gem would be better.

Im currently using the nergigante one but im not going for elemental weakness. so i should rather go with the Bow Charge one if i get it?

I jsut didnt know if the spread jewel works for the coating since it says Spread Ammo and Power Shot.

Oh wait you're right i forget if power shot uses the applied coatings, should go test in the training area.

yeah if your focus is on raw damage, the bow charge or spread jewel to boost power shot damage are preferable. the diablos bow is good for a setup like this or deviljho bow. the negative affinity is easy to overcome with the right skills.

lemme grab an example build of console real quick. im not far on PC, waiting for optimizations xP but this is a fun bow build for late game.

i have no issues staying close to a mob since i play melee too. i guess im used to it and like it that way.
I mostly charge max and then dash Shoot (circle on ps4 controller) and repeat till out of stamina and that does pretty well. so i just wanted to know how to get further dmg and didnt know if Normal Jewel or Spread jewel for that.

I dont need a build since i kinda go for a mix mix fashion build with decent dmg if possible :D
My two cents... Bow Charge Plus is best. Power/Spread Shot is next. Pierce only if you focus on Dragon Piercer... Normal Shots I don't use. I just use food to get Feyline Sharpshooter (S). It's a little less damage, but it saves me a deco slot and still improves the damage of normal shot a bit.
the build is,
Cera Coil Bender (diablos Bow 2 expert jewels)
Kadachi Helm A
Diablos Mail B (slugger jewel)
Kaiser Vambraces A (expert jewel)
Bazel Coil B (earplug jewel)
Lavasioth Greaves B (elementless jewel)
Fitness charm III (for constitution 5 total)
Evasion mantle
Impact Mantle

general idea behind the set is maximum damage, no neg crits, and the ability to spam dodge and power shot over and over as many times as possible, there are better versions of this but they involve lunastra armor, which we have no access to on PC yet. impact mantle is for power shotting the face and arc shotting. you wont use arc shot much but when you got impact mantle up it'll amp up the stun it does. constitution allows you to spend less stamina on evades, which means more of them. the low grade earplugs from 3 points negates a good chunk of monster roars, sadly not elders or big roars like diablos. but it is handy. if earplugs isnt your thing, belt can be anything else for evasion boosting or damage.

its a fun lil set for smashing a monster solo or in a group. and it works great if you like using close range coating.
