But I don't use it or main it. I just like it lol.
I main all ranged wepaons now and Longsword but still, I still think Switch Axe is the coolest and sickest weapon of all.
I just finished a 4 Dark Devourer explosion party.
Tempered Vaal goes down in 2 minutes and 37 seconds covered in explosions.
Disgustingly fun.
Insect glaive is kinda fun too, and I'm gaining an appreciation for some of the other weapons, but my fallback "we need to get the job done" weapon is a charge blade.
... and when you land that super amped... Few moves feel as satisfying (sure, greatsword hits harder, but it doesn't FEEL like it hits harder)
Because you can never have enough dakka.
Regular lance is also real cool, but GL is the one that works 100% as advertised out of the box with green-blue sharpness tops and no supplementary skills. Which was a surprise given it's the one with more specialty skills related to it.
Like most games, I guess the average veteran advice is incredibly skewed by complacancy with their later toys.
Beating anything from Barroth to Diablos to Teo is easy with any Plain Lance. But Gun Lance has no "Oh yeah!? You just wait until I have white sharness, and handicraft, and use this specific niche attack that bypasses armor-and-" for EZ parts busting.
Just roll out of bed with your Barnos armor cause you can't be bothered to use cool drinks and leave your poison resist gems slotted. explode the horns right off Teo with Chrome I.
A proper regular lance can hammer out plain DPS like crazy, you've got a bigger ceiling to reach for in Raw Murder.
But GL is basically the more user friendly baseline option for utility. ESPECIALLY in your initial run through the plot before it's time to start farming Tempered stuff and using just whatever you can slap together.
"I broke Teo's horns with 368 raw, no bombs, before they ran away to sleep. and all I got was this lousy T-shirt" (Went from proud of myself to annoyed real fast).
Good lance usage is the scalpel of a skilled surgeon. Good GL is the swiss army knife of Macgyver.
Now, as for weapons I'm not using but make me jealous?
Great Sword. Proper Great Sword users are the ones who make me feel inadequate. Like bizzaro world "compensating for something?" jokes.
More dakka is good! Very Orky!
But dere's one fing dat gives you moar dakka dan an 'eavy bowgun.
Four of 'em!
(Seriously, four HBGs all hitting wyvernheart at the same time is something wonderous to behold)
love them because somebody had a right idea on usage of explosive firepower and i hate it because somebody added bow part to the gun for no reason.
So simple yet also the hardest weapon to master.
Always feels so great to pull off a perfect shoulder tackle and nailing that third charged attack on a sleeping monster.
Having said that I prefer the GunLance ('Wide' specifically at the moment) if I actually want to get something done. It's the sort of everyman of the weapons that only really lacks in the mobility department. But, like the Lance that matters little when you have a wall attacked to your arm.
Want to cut something: Swing big (the upward and downward swings are perfect for cutting tails)
Want to break something: Poke it, or Shell it
The poke bounced: Shell it
Large opening, or sleeping: Wyvernfire
It has a nice sort of back and forth to it, especially against the faster monsters like Odagaron, block - poke - block - poke - block - poke - shell shell reload - block etc.
