Effluved Small Monsters
I was just wondering what causes a girros to become effluved, raphinos make sense since they aren't native and cant handle effluvium but girros are native so why do they start to decay from the stuff. One theory I heard was that theyre zombies raised by vaal but then why does he kill the ones in his cutscene.

Vaal’s Fart gas far too potent. I feel like during the cutscene the girros were hunting for food and found the giant pile of decaying flesh without realizing Vaal was underneath waiting to prey on them. Kinda like a Venus fly trap.
I feel like the Effluvium is a way to Vaal to mark targets as prey. Outside of being enraged he is the slowest, laziest creature in the game. If he can mark food a good while off before he actually needs it, then eating is a simple matter of one big yawn and breakin them down with the Effluvium's corrosive properties. None of this chasing little slippery creatures about
Anything that hast a lifeforce still in em effluvium marks and drain its life slowly the vaal swoops in and drains that effluvium to heal himself
Atleast thats my explanation for it
The effluvium is essentially a drug that makes the monsters more aggressive (Odagaron for example). It makes them addicted to it as well so they'll naturally seek out more of it. Aka the giant Elder constantly spewing it.
love that last theory and that would explain why effluved girros dont protect the great girros and wouldnt dodogama or jagras be the laziest monsters. Also I wouldnt think odo is infected since he doesnt have the green haze clinging to him like the girros and raphinos
