Why iceborn has so many bad steam reviews in comparison to base game?
I am having a blast playing this in coop with my friend, currently 30 hours in and HL 9 , the story surprisingly enjoying it but the gameplay the loop so good testing new weapons AMAZING and POOGIIE!!

Anyway i just got the base game because i was afraid i wouldn't like it but i love it and then i see mixed reviews on iceborn and im like wth and check reviews on youtube and they all seem to put it between 8.5 and 9 but then i see on steam majority negative seem to be joke reviews others point out a lot network issues? (i have non on base game is it different on iceborn?)

this confuses me anyone else has more specific insight on the discrepancy.

Basically, launch issues and/or denuvo.
Juliane_L Jul 8, 2020 @ 12:59pm
because of issues at launch.
base world also had bad rewives for the same reasons.
also probably a few people salty because they can't beat beotodus/barioth or whatever..

I thought Barioth was the real saltmine for newbies?

true, updated my post.
The bad reviews are due to tech issues on launch.
If you have no technical problems with base game, you'll have no problem with Iceborne since Iceborne is actually already installed, and you are just buying an activation code.

When you hit iceborne you hit a wall especially if you used the defender gear you will have some issues defeating IB monsters.
A lot of it was from veteran players who didn't like changes that Iceborne brought. Steam reviews are just there way of venting frustration thinking that someone at Capcom would actually read them.

1. Don't like the clutch claw and tenderizing? Write negative review.
2. Don't like Guiding Lands and how you can infinite cart? Write negative review.
3. Don't like Safi jiiva and how literally anyone can get good weapons and armor no matter what there skill level is? Write negative review.
4. Monsters roar too much. Write negative review.
5. Too many reskins and variants? Write negative review.
6. Monsters too hard? Write negative review.
7. Monsters too easy? Write negative review
8. Sticky ammo making the game a joke? Write negative review.

Like all "G" monster hunter games the difficulty spike is a bit of a jump from high rank.

And like previous games the time for said fights, at least initially can be a bit long, especially if you have to learn new movesets.

You can literally run out of time which was never a problem in the base game standard hunts.

I've been a long term hunter (since I tried the demo that came with Devil may cry 2) and have soloed pretty much everything since and I have to say the Icebourne fights are either boring slogs vs high health or cheap and annoying unless you gear for a specific fight (previous games you bring equipment for that).

Its not for everyone.

The amount of reviews on Iceborne's steam page are quite insignificant when compared to the amount of reviews the base game gets.

The Dlc was review-bombed at launch due to issues, and it is really difficult for a game to get out of that neutral rating when most people only post their reviews on the base game hub.

Pretty much this. Iceborne is great. If you like the base game, you'll like Iceborne.

The two comments that come up again and again in the negative reviews are the clutch claw and performance/connectivity issues. I'm not a huge fan of the clutch claw, but it really is not a big deal (and is effectively part of the base game now, even if you can't use it without owning Iceborne). And, for me anyway, Iceborne performs about the same, with about the same level of disconnects, as the base game.

It boils down to one of three things. The first and most prominent is technical issues. When Iceborne first came out it was a broken mess. It's a lot better now though, thankfully. Second is Denuvo, which i personally dislike, but it's not a make it or break it issue. And the last is people disliking the changes Iceborne brought, like the gimmicky clutch claw. I don't mind it myself, which generally is an opinion i see shared around here.

If it was just review bomb at the choppy launch of iceborn why it still has mixed (64% positive reviews out of 400+ reviews) on the recent ones as well? (last 30 days)

edit: i did some bad review reads and it is mostly bad optimization and disconnections...is it really that bad? and disconnections are different in iceborn than from the main game?

The disconnects do happen from time to time, but they aren't as prevalent as the reviews make them look. From personal experience when I play with friends, we don't get DC too often, but when we do it's more often because goes into maintenance and kills all lobbies but sometimes we do get kicked out of nowhere and that's the game's fault no doubt.

As for the optimization, that's a hot topic really. Back when Iceborne launched, I bought the base game and it was so bad that I had to refund it, fast forward a few months and they improved a lot on that front, I wouldn't call it good optimization at all tho, it's decent enough to make the game playable.

Also, it's not like Iceborne is a perfect expansion so negative reviews can always come from that side. For example, tt added a lot of questionable stuff (the clutch claw is straight out garbage in it's current state for light weapons imo) and some of the monsters can be stupidly cheap and infuriating to play against (MR Tempered Black Diablos).
