Single target or multiple target investigation?
Not only do you get the quest rewards, those boxes offer additional rewards, gold boxes have (I think) usually around a 16% chance to be a plate
It may still take a few tries, but be careful, a lot of investigations have special rules, like you can only faint once, a stricter time limit etc.
If you need a rathian plate specifically, I would avoid investigations with multiple monsters, as those gold reward boxes might just give parts from other monsters, but if that's all you have, go for it :)
And finally, if you don't have investigations, or run out, just hunt rathians in optional quests, and be sure to pick up tracks, and break parts, the higher your research level, the higher chance you have of unlocking an investigation by collecting tracks or breaking parts
Good luck!!! :D
If you are farming plates on LR, gems on HR or mantles on MR, you get an extra drop chance if you break their heads and carve their tails (if you can sever them). Also some monsters can drop them if you break another body part, so check your hunter notes on that monster to see if breaking any part can drop the plate.
If i still have trouble with this thing, im gonna be back
if you want to get a chance on them without focusing on these monsters
