The entire iceborne grind is pretty miserable due to the constant interruption of other monsters and the unstoppable limping.
All MH series grinding the game built this way made things rare so you keep playing.
Who remembers the rng nightmare fest that was the stream stone farming? To see it drop, but it was for a weapon that you don't even like. At least the main farming of the gathering lands is progressive but with still a little bit of random.
But sure, lets complaint on how Capcom gave us a quest to farm super rare decorations and how difficult it is and how it made me hate the monster.
Older games had rng yes, for farming the upgrades, weapons. But for the gems, you could at least craft them! Imagine if you could craft gems in mhw? Wouldn't it be better? But they gotta put you through repetitive crap to get what you want.
I personally don't mind, it also means he runs away every once in a while, giving a chance to safely heal, sharpen, and reload :)
