Is this game meant for controller?
I'm doing the tutorial and I can not for the life of me figure out what button on the mouse these symbols are talking about. Looking at it this is meant for a three button mouse so should I just use controller?

imo ranged is k&m and melee is controller, but plenty of people only stick to one for both and do just fine.

2200 hours into the game, never used controller.

Yes, this game was made mainly for consoles, primarily PS4 and ported to PC, so yes. However, keyboard & mouse has great advantages over controller, as the aim with mouse is superior and hotkeys have shorter execution time. World records are broken with KnM.

850 hours with keyboard and mouse no issue at all.

What kind of mouse are you using that doesn't have 3 buttons (left, right, scroller)?

The thing is, game defaults some keys to M4 and M5, and the indication in-game isn't clear unless you used them for gaming before. Once I got used to that it's fine, but took me some time.

You can play it with mouse and keyboard, but the game was designed with the controller in mind.
My recommendation would be to use the controller and if you prefer mouse and keyboard you can always switch back and change some of the inputs to improve the control scheme.
The basis control scheme for mouse and keyboard isn't great and I'd definetly recommend changing some of the inputs.

Controller would be the preferred option in my opinion.

yeah since its a console game on previous generation its mostly developed with console in mind

theres some key the dev forgot to include when iceborne release,so if you cant look for it just edit it in the option

maybe try these? also some of the basic settings aren't gr8. Like, I think lockon in monster hunter is bad for a lot of reasons. Manual lockon (where you can tap the camera button to center on the monster at will) is better because it gives you more precise control over your movements.

Also, just a headsup, if you want to rush to iceborne where the majority of the playerbase is, the defender armor they start you off in is good for that, but if you want a genuine experience, you may want to ditch it until at least till high rank (the difficulty levels are low rank, high rank, master rank). They basically gave you high rank armor that has some of the best defensive skills in the game, so it may distort your experience if that's something you care about.

Controller is best for this game and I am a die hard K&M guy but MHW was made for a controller.

I run straight K&M on this and I find it so much easier than controller, that's for me and I main GS so it's completely different for each person
