Large Wyvern Capture
How do I get one of these mission types, or better, do I need to get a mission for them? Should I just embark on any other mission, or go on an expedition and capture 1/2 that I need?

Before, I think I had it once in investigation, but now it's gone. Same goes for an optional mission capturing Legiana. I need mats, so, any advice on this would be great.

You can capture the target monster(s) in any quest that doesn't explicitly say "Slay" you just have to bring make your own tranqs and traps.

You can only get more "Capture" quests randomly as you aquire investigations (which you randomly get more whenever you collect tracks, break parts, etc. Anything monster related that earns research points during the hunt).

Apart for unlocking Special Arena fights with some

interesting.. because I remember the game saying, that Capture should always yield heftier rewards to killing. I still get those in capture, because I have to weaken a monster enough to be captured with a shock trap and 2 tranq bombs.

I didn't know that. Thanks for the tip.

Fankly it's whatever you prefer doing, I just wouldn't be hell bent on specifically looking for capture quests.

I kill/carve for the same reasons I don't use bowguns much, I get a nagging feeling that I'm wasting resources.

I understand. Felt the same way, until I realized how those work, because I was failing captures and capture wastes a ton of time in resources, but if it yields better rewards, that's just simple mathematics, it gives more mats, that means, faster time to branching upgrade trees. There's a little bit of risk/reward there going on.

Anyway, I agree, hunting feels a lot more satisfying.

Also just an FYI, Kill Quests count as completed if you capture as well. Saves time and effort. You do get more resources by capturing, but some resources are more likely to appear by carving. RNGesus is your friend.

Capture and carve have identical drop rates. Capture is strictly better since it gives you more drops.

Capture/ kill investigations are random. The research bounties are also random, though you can select from 5 or 7 (not sure if it's 5, 6 or 7) which ones you want to do.

For capture quests you have to capture else you fail, for kill quests it doesn't matter whether you capture or kill. Capturing is always better though, not only do you get more rewards, but you save time.

Edit: Also, once you reach late game / complete all the garden quests and upgrade it fully you won't have any headache in regard of consumables. Money will flow as well after your first weapon and armor upgrades, so you'll be able to buy hundreds of traps - though I'd wait until an event comes around, as the prices of the shop items are getting reduced.

If all else fails, try joining other people's hunts. You can also try filtering monsters in "search for online session"
