If you are too lazy to switch weapons, go raw instead. And if you're playing DB or bow, just switch class entirely.
He asked for best, these are the worst because they work off of the status mechanic which requires more buildup for each successive proc.
Raw damage is best for most weapons, for dual blades and bows you want to match weaknesses. Unfortunately there's no real "best" element for these, all 5 elements are useful in certain endgame hunts. Dragon for Behemoth (front legs), Water for Teostra, Ice for Lunastra, Thunder for Kushala, Fire for Vaal.
also raw is not good for most weapons, its good for about half.
1)ls
2)gs
3)cb
4)hammer
5)sa
rest(excluding bowguns) are still better getting element except gunlance and hunting horn where it hardly matters.
For all other weapons, Raw is king. That doesn't necessarily mean elementless, some categories use the Deviljho option which is technically dragon. They simply don't care about the element.
HH is Jho/Kulve (elementless), Glaive is Jho or Diablos. Bowguns don't really count as anything, the weapons themselves don't even have elements.
also db and bow i assume you agree.
if it doesnt have 3 on element dont even bother.
