Base game: Any "better" weapon than Defender?

Without iceborne expansion, is there any reason to craft any other late game equipment rather than defender weapons, or they really give a "this is the way" weapon for the endgame as well?

You can finish the base game "with a focking pencil". And yeah, endgame stuff is better than Def, imagine Def with 20-30 affinity and inbred weapon skill. Yeah, better.

In most cases Defender weapons are the best base game weapons, they cannot be upgraded further than "defender V" even in iceborne, still its quite possible to complete the iceborne story using just the Defender weapons.

Defender gear is for new players and will stay with you till Master rank 3 4 stars then u will feel you do no dmg and u start using MR weapons i recommend bone tree easy to make decent dmg u can finish MR story easy.

End game weapons in iceborne wont be 1 weapon for all elemental weapons play a role and dose more dmg than raw so depends what u fighting u counter it.

depends of the weapon type. for elemental weapons defender is decent but outclassed.

true, but as soon as you reach Iceborne early-mid game you can have better weapons.

Defender V weapons still hold up well for the first 1/2 of Iceborne.

Depends on your weapon of choice. The defender hunting horn is trash for example because it has no attack up L buff on it.

I remember when I first started iceborne with all my endgame weapons it still took me a while to hunt down the first monsters until I got upgrades, can't imagine how long would it take with defender weapons.

in some cases your right, but some weapons in high rank are better, for example the dark devourer (deviljho tree) has one of the biggest base damage heavy bowguns in the base game. And in icebourne the savage deviljho heavy bowgun, the upgrade of the dark devourer is one of the best in the game. (but yes the defender tree is one of the best but if you are a hardcore grinder, try to get the deviljho weapons)

yea for example the safi scorchcannon, its the best heavy bowgun in the game, definately worth it. It is going to be super useful for updates to come.

There is no definitive best bowgun, it all depends on what ammo type you are using.

They got replaced by almost every weapon. Almost every base IB weapon is better than them.

Depends on your weapon. For LS, defender is the best. For bow, defender is garbage.
