Is Flinch Free lv3 worth it on any weapon ?
So i tried out Flinch Free lv3 against a coral pukei pukei, found out it only works on one attack out of many, same on many other monsters.
Thoughts ?

Only level 1 is worth it. And only if you are doing multiplayer.

I see, so it affects staggers from other players as well now i understand it a little bit more.

Not all staggers, only light attacks. Attacks from heavier weapons or weapons with big attacks will still stagger or knock you down.

To my knowledge, the only thing considered a trip is the running charge from lance. Everything else is just a flinch and would be stopped by level 1 brace

TLDR: 1 is all you need

Flinch free 1 makes you immune to the basic stagger animation when somebody hits you, which just cancels your combo. Flinch free 2 makes it so the "trip" animation where you're pushed onto your knees instead becomes the animation that flinch free 1 makes you immune to (One example is the Lance charge like Hymensmasher said, Lance's lunging poke after a guard dash, IG's tornado slash, Bow's dragon piercer, GS charge attacks also trip allies.) The problem with FF 2 is that you'll still get the flinch free 1 animation from these attacks, which screws up your combos anyway. Flinch free 3 makes you immune to both the stagger animation and the trip animation, but it still doesn't help with the massive knockback attacks (Like when gunlancers Wyvernfire you in the back, cluster bombs blast you away, etc).
Maybe for insect glaive for free earplugs and windproof up to level 3 and tremor resist to level 2

If they had a skill that prevents all player attacks from effecting you I'd take it if only to keep you lemmings I carried through the fight from messing with my victory dance. :steammocking:

insect glaive's final biggest hit for the ground combo is a trip I think.... at least FF lvl 1 doesn't stop it but lvl 3 does. Also hammer's last part of the aerial spin isn't stopped by FF lvl 1. Also CB SAED I think isn't stopped by FF lvl 1.

Also what Bluest Bear said is true. FF lvl 3 is good for comfy IG builds because as long as IG has 3 buffs, it has free 3 lvls of plugs, windproof, and tremor res. If you can somehow fit 2 more earplugs and windproof, it will ALMOST be a perma pseudo rocksteady.

Insect glaive. With lv 2 earplugs and lv 1 tremor you're basically unstoppable once you grab the extracts
Really useful late HR early MR (I'm MR 7 right now)

Flinch free is melding materials. The skill doesn't really help vs monsters and will not help vs heavier player attacks. It only stops you from getting hit by longsworders and dualbladers for which there is a better remedy: Kick them from the quest; they are 2x-3x more likely to cart than any other weapon class anyway.

Some monsters do like making "dodge checks", like Rajangs quick arm swipe that does a mild stagger into another random move, if you don't dodge the right way after you get hit by the arm swipe, you'll get roll-caught. FF does help against these scenarios, but you don't need FF to avoid it if youi react accordingly.

FF 1 is nice in co-op though as others said.

Flinch Free is an Anti-Player skill rather than an Anti-Monster skill.

The reason you need Flinch Free is to stop other players from interrupting your attacks.

As you have already concluded from your result, it is pretty much useless against monsters.

Level 1 is definitely worth it in multiplayer on anything besides:

Pierce bowgun

Longsword

Hunting horn with knockback reduction songs (there is one with attack up L)

Level 3 i heard something about insect glaive getting some kind of buff when it gathers all extracts and when you havd flinch free. Not sure if that’s level 1 or 3.

No, Flinch Free is actually very good on LongSword because it prevents you from being knocked out of "attacking status" while you waiting for the moment to use your Foresight Slash.

As many LongSword user already knows: Foresight Slash can only be used after an attack. Then often times, LongSword user may want to wait 0.1 to 1 second for that perfect Foresight Slash window.

While you are waiting within that 0.1 to 1 second, YOU CAN BE FLINCHED. And if you are flinched, you can not use Foresight Slash after that (then tragedy happens).

Or put it this way:
Bad LongSword player smashes button after button.
Good LongSword player use the right attack at the right moment.
Only good LongSword player will understand the significance of Flinch Free in a multiplayer game.

Oh the irony of a longsword player complaining about being flinched.
