Other than that the only good advice you're not already doing is to go for the head. He flinches a lot from head damage and that creates numerous small openings. Make sure you are building mostly for damage as utility/defensive skills are pretty weak in Iceborne. Anything more than max Health Boost and Recovery Up is a total waste, except for maybe level 5 Divine Protection.
You can flinch it with some slingers and get 1-2 hits on its legs. You can eat for Feline Ryder or Slugger for increased mount chance, so you "can" mount more than one time.
Kushala's set bonus, prevents all wind pressure it is a "windproof lvl 6".
To make it special, the wind were classified as "Dragon Wind Pressure" as opposed to "Wind Pressure". Back in those days, the only way to combat the knock-back were to build its armour. Fast forward to present, it can also be mitigated by using hunting horn with "All Wind Pressure Negation".
But yeah, for those that does not have Pressure Negation skill, the trick to aim for its head. I still remember how easy it was with GreatSword or Hammer. Basically you stood at 45 degrees to the head then charge up with GreatSword or Hammer. Kushala Daora will turn its body to face you before he does an attack. Soon as it turns, you release the charge and that will land on its head.
I still haven't gone around to test it if the trick still work because let's be real here: NO ONE LOVES TO FIGHT THIS POS. Also, to make its movement more predictable, it would have to be a solo hunt.
If you need to fight a Kush, add me. I can make you immune to all farts it blows your way.
