Sleep Weapons are terrible!!
The amount of time spent waiting on the monster to do its animation, people to deploy bombs, and the wake up attack is far less than any potential damage from regular play during that time.

Someone sleeps a monster I stick a Wyvernstake in its ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, or face.

And when it gets up I try and wallbang it.

i dunno. I kinda like the lull to re-buff yourself and regain composure if you were gettin' wallop'd good by the monster.

Also work exceptionally well with monsters like Kulve as they take forever to fall asleep. FREE HITS BEFORE IT STARTS SNORIN'.

It may well be less overall dps with sleeps but it enables a break in the fight and a lot of damage for very little risk. Pile of bombs under the monster then wallbang (so the bombs explode as it runs over them) and you get a ton of damage.

It's a time vs risk mechanic, similar to mounting. Or you can just use it as a para and attack through it, but is best to let the team know which you want to be doing else they'll do whatever.

TCS on GS
Lotsa damage... even without bombs.

And you can even wallbang it right after so an extra down aswell

You can sharpen your weapon. I believe you especially can use that with gunlance and every1 else that lost his 'masters touch'

The first hit that wakes a monster does double damage, which means you're doing it wrong if you wake stuff up with wyvernstake.

You could be losing 3.8k damage from a GS wake up for example.

i see this on zino event all the time. morons not waiting for sleep below the giant boulder trap when he happens to be in that room. that sleep below the rock is a free 3100 dmg. no weapon can pull that off in such a short amount of time. it takes only 3 shots sleep ammo 2 to sleep him first time. stupid easy to do below the trap.

normally the trap does 3100 itself. with sleep its 6200 dmg in 1 ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hit. plus free ko afterwards. that more than makes up for waiting a few seconds to perform the sleep. plus you can keep attacking while he falls over. just dont use longass animation attacks during this. free dmg aswell. then wait like 5 seconds for the boulder to land the first hit. done.

people need to learn to use thier tools and enviroment better really.

Isn't centering more around the environment one of the things about World compared to other games?

I don't do this on naturally sleeping monsters. I understand the GS is the best weapon to "wake" them up.

also, you can hit monsters while they're falling asleep, and they won't wake up. Is any damage really lost?

I do prefer paralysis weapon.

There are several ways to use sleep and even if you are just using it as a second form of stun it helps. Being annoyed by the sleep and losing about five to fifteen seconds of time for people to place bombs just seems like some person being impatient, not someone actually complaining about an inconvenience.

I was in guiding lands doing tundra and I ran para and another ran sleep, and it was incredible. Idk why you don't like it, it's great for shiny drops.

Oh, one more thing.

Even if a monster falls asleep enraged, you can still flinch shot and claw attack it.

This. It makes for a free 800+ damage as well as a knock down most of the time. Sleep weapons are worth it just because of the free damage.

lol no

just because a weapon doesn't shake a rattle in your face of WOW BIG NUMBERS (which is all I can assume causes people to just keep attacking while something is clearly falling asleep) doesn't make it bad. Everything everyone said above me is right.
