longsword help
im trying to get away from using the bow as it seems kinda weak endgame so im using the longsword. Im having a super hard time building the charge and seem like as soon as i go to combo i get hit by something. I also die often and it seems way too slow to build the combo. anyone know any good video or something that could help?

Just quick note that bow is considered to be one of the strongest weapons in the game, it's just that archers are kinda squishy so requires more learning I guess. And for some reasons the devs make it so that bows are not good for sieges.

As for LS, you can transition into foreslight slash from almost any combo/move even though the prompt doesn't tell you so. If you successfully dodge with it and your attack connects, you gain full spirit gauge. Failing it and you loose gauge progress.

As for videos:

Actual combat from TDS, who has a godlike LS player. Note how you can foresight slash roar to get the first gauge.

The "How To Weeb Long Sword" video got me hooked when trying to figure out my weapon in the very early stages and kept me playing this game for quite a bit, because I wasn't sure if I would buy into this game. Close to 900 hours now, 1500+ LS kills. Any weapon that makes you move like water or involves footwork in the post like Zach Randolph, sign me up.

Bow is not weak but Bow requires too much knowledge about the game. You have to hit weak poins of the bosses all the time, and tenderizing is hard with bow (x2 clutch). That makes it hard for a normal person. When it comes to speed run all those players are OP af so they use the weapons with max potantial.

To add a smidge:

- every weapon is viable. Every single one. If mastered you can do some really disgusting ♥♥♥♥ to monsters. Yes that include roach stick too.
- low tier master rank monsters are ideal to test and/or familiarize with new weapon. Sure there's the proving ground but I find little use of that other than testing out dps for new builds
- understanding how skills work (or doesn't) with your weapon of choice is key in building strong sets. Sure you can just take ♥♥♥♥ from internet if that's your thing but thinking outside of the box can sometime make or break your enjoyment
-speaking off its all about enjoyment. Use what you want or feel like or are comfortable with, tier lists sucks anyway and people writing them are sad and will die alone

if bow feels weak endgame i think you may be using it wrong.

as far as LS goes, the Iai Strike helps keep your gauge high for building your buffs, Focus also helps with the charge building. Power Prolonger helps maintain your buffs.
Realistically though the way to solve both this and your dying problem with the LS is start learning to counter, even if you get smashed for a few hours learning. its very, very strong.... nullifying monster damage and giving a free buff.

Bow does absolutely obnoxious damage when you build right and shoot the hurty bits.

Plus, bow is 2nd place in speedrun leaderboards right under the heavy faceroll gun, and has been for awhile
For people who doesn't use:

1. Armour skill / Canteen food / Dash Juice to reduce Stamina consumption.
2. Use at least lv 1 Stamina Surge to speed up stamina recovery.
3. Wasting their time on Dragon Piercer
4. Not using Crit element or True Crit Element
5. Shooting the monster from miles away
6. Using the wrong element or targeting the wrong parts.

Then yes, bow is very weak at end game.
That basically takes the fun out of playing the game if the game indirectly forces you to go with a specific playstyle instead of trying to play your way. There are many better weps than bow.
