Why isn’t Gunlance more popular? The damage is insane....
So I downloaded a parser. Turned off the cheating monster overlay and I never broadcast damage.

I’ve been consistently top 1 or 2 in every hunt I’m not late too. Can’t compete with spread gunners. Not a brag thread btw, I’m a slightly above mediocre player.

Build is Lightbreak with full raging brachy armor and furious Rajang greaves for HB3. Earplugs/Artillery/Guard 3/Guard Up/Evade extender are staples. HP and def augments on weapon.

Wyvernstake is just insane, especially on a tender weak point.

Seems every 15th hunt I might see another G-lancer. Sad, this weapon is hella fun.

Ledge cheesing is fun too, auto burst directly into stake.

No offense but I’ve yet to be out dps’d by any of the weapons you listed on equal grounds. By equal grounds I mean starting the hunt at the same time. Multiplayer btw, not comparing speed runs.

This wide 7 GL really changed the whole weapon, for the better.

You've yet to address the fun in gunlance, and you're stating your opinions in a vacuum, because speedruns on youtube show otherwise. Sure, you may be outdamaging other weapons on your own runs, but I'll be outdamaging gunlance using chargeblades and longswords all day, so I'd say those weapons are much better than a gunlance, also they're more dynamic. If you want to compare your big ♥♥♥♥ damage in multiplayer so much and just don't like other people using what they want, why not just play singleplayer where you don't have to be slowed down by them then?
tl;dr not everyone likes using a big chonky slow weapon.

So you run an overlay too?

You stated you will be out-damaging other weapons. Where is your data?

I think the Silver Rathalos isn't too bad. The stick looks pretty sleek and the shield actually looks more like a shield instead of a colorful box. I could do without the scales though.
Yeah, me too. That's one of the reasons I also like the Rajang Gunlance, since the shield is a small kiteshield and not some gigantic weird thing lol. Silver Rathalos one is nice, and so is the Dodogama one I think, but I can't remember - I might be getting that one mixed up with the Lance instead.

I like the Rathian ones since it has a kind of "compensator" looking thing on the end of it, like a .50cal has, and it follows a nice symmetrical aesthetic too, but the colours were never really my thing for any of them lol.

Velkhana has a niceish shield, it's a big tower shield, but I never liked the shield boss that attached it, it looks really flimsy. Also I guess the design and colours are an acquired taste too, all warped ice bright blue and white.

Boomstick is fun, but my god are the wide and long ones boring to play. Gave them a try, but I can't part from Normal. I'd like to use more than the 1 same boring attack, ty lol.

Aerial moves and being able to shell straight up keep me engaged.

How does normal have anything other than burst?
It's the most limited shelling type.

A good GL will certainly be outperforming alot of average players, for sure. And their damage is nothing to scoff at, but in regards to raw dps output in perfect play, ie speedruns, gunlance is pretty mediocre. I don't know why, maybe its just a lack of options or precision cc damage, I dont play GL at all so I couldnt tell you. BUT, the average times place it dead center in regards to speed running. There are a few fights where the weapon archetype seems to perform very nicely, like zinogre and stygian zinogre placing the weapon in 5th and 6th place, but 5th place timings are the best it can pull. Which, in the best conditions, put it behind SnS, bow, greatsword, and hbg.
When we talk about damage and how good the gunlance is, we should be taking into account the difference between average and maximum ouput. And while the gunlance has a strong mid range output, it is definitely not the best when it comes to the high range outputs. So they are strong weapons, and in the end if you want to be using them please do, play how you want, but they aren't the be all end all for damage. Their average times sit them in the middle.

I use them but only on a monster that has ♥♥♥♥♥♥ hitzones and bounce parts like rajang

The only number that matters is the total at the end of the hunt.

Speed runs are not the only thing you should look at for speed, gotta look at the average, because speed runs only apply to the top end, not the other 99.9% of people.

Its also worth noting that there aren't a lot of dedicated speed runners. Look at zebraquakes time in GU against hellblade EX, nearly 2 minutes faster then every other EX speed run. Why? Not because valor longsword is good(it is, but that isn't the point), but because he ran that dozens or hundreds of times. Odds are most weapons in world could actually get the time down if they fully optimized every little thing.

I use GL through iceborne story and change to other weapon to avoid getting bored. Mainly because of long shelling meta. Now we have brach GL so I use it again sometimes. But GL is horrible for farming Rage Brach and KT. I use almost all weapon so haven't finished farming rage yet.
