Thoughts of this community on Dauntless

[Hunting Doska]

Due to not having the ability to play Iceborne right now (stable 25 fps regardless of settings since the iceborne update), decided to play Dauntless. Dropped after 10 hours. The core gameplay is fine, but everything from athletics to content feels hollow and MMO-ish - the feel you get from some WoW clone from 2006-2013. Hitboxes are wiered - the beast can lie on you and you get no dmg due to the fact that the hitbox of the attack is only on the claws. But the worst offender were the weapons. They were fine (but as complex as every dark souls weapon), but the animations... They feel off and weightless...? Just wrong. This is not how a person uses a weapon. Kinda like dark souls 2 after 1 and 3, but 100 times worse. The only reason i will not play this game in a while.

Wanted to know what others here think about this game

The game is fun in a no brainer kind of way, its way less complex and therefore easier.
Its like an even beginner friendlier MH.
However it has so many flaws with damage of certain "behemoths" making no sense at all and you having to rely on your teammates even more than here.
Also because its free there are waaaay overpriced skins.

It's alright.
Some monsters were just clearly animated by someone who never saw an animal move and who thinks giving weight = make slow.

Imagine having an ability that gives +30% attackspeed on your greatsword, longsword or whatever and those weapons swing 30% slower so you kinda need that ability for those weapons to feel something approaching normal.
That's kinda the place dauntless is at except there are tons more attackspeed abilities than just 1 so a weapons rhythm is just ♥♥♥♥♥♥.

I played dauntless on and off since closed alpha and while it gets better over time, it's still a mediocre mh clone at best.

its lame epic exclusive trash. that and they chose the other path of networking players together and its atrocious if you get someone in your group with a bad connection.

Oh yeah, all hit detection is server side in dauntless, so if there is any lag then it's a terrible gameplay experience.

Jokes aside, Dauntless is basically a free, watered-down version of MHW. But it has value in that it can be a nice intro for people who have never played a MH game before and are considering getting into World.

Poor man's Monster Hunter, basically. I played it back before it sold its soul to Epic, which is when I uninstalled. I can't hate the game though since I never would have looked into MHW if I hadn't stumbled into Dauntless first. As a first time player in the monster hunting genre, it was pretty cool.

But, yeah, it does not hold a candle to MHW. I'll still recommend it to people who've never done Monster Hunter before, are curious on World, have not played any monster hunting genre games, are willing to put up with Epic, but are not willing to drop the money on World to try it out. It's a good, free way to get one's feet wet and see if this type of game is their cup of tea. And, I'll tell them, if they like it, then get into MHW.

Also, I do really like some of the monsters in that game, like the Embermane or Valomyr, and wish I could fight them in MHW.

Dauntless community feels very wrong to me...
"Monster Hunter World is fine, but the combat and animations there are much worse and i like the athletics and music of Dauntless more"...

It's an okay game. It's just not as good as MHW

I tried Duantless on the PS4. I couldn't even push myself to complete the tutorial. MHW spoiled me with it's superiority.
