they never managed to balance switchaxe properly. raw is ALWAYS better, even with the silverlos set, elemental cant even reach the damage of raw + you cant combine silverlos with the teostra set, so you have to sharpen it often. i really don't know, why they even bother with element phials, when they suck this hard.

PEP only better on KT
that's it
only 1 monster in the game

Even the phial explosions can crit. So yeah.

I like elemental crit set + Velkhana blessing for the sake of it, it gets the job done.

Does anyone have the math or a source on the phials? They aren't the easiest to find information about, especially the lesser-used ones like Dragon or Exhaust Phial. It would really be cool to know why Element Phial sucks, and not just that it sucks. :dwayneelf:

The phial explosions have lower motion value or are based on the element and not on raw or sth. like that. Basically unless it's Kulve with 50 ice hzv element phials explosions are worse than power. Also power phials grant a percentage raw buff in sword mode, with MR raw that's just too strong to outdamage with element.

What are the actual motion values, though? I don't know how much stronger one is than the other one, which is kind of important. The way it's being explained, it doesn't sound like element would ever be stronger even against Taroth.

Get Safi's Shatteraxe + Teo and Raging Brach's armor. It gets the job done better.

Alright, it's gonna be a big explanation.
So, SA has 6 Phials, Power, Element, Exhaust, Paralysis, Poison and Dragon. If you want SUPER complicated math, each phial internally has different values for charging your sword form amped state. Every attack with Sword Form has a specific "charge" to it, and depending on the phial, the charge will be faster/slower. Power, Para and Poison Phials all take 100 "Amp" to charge this. Element and Exhaust need 70 "Amp" and Dragon needs 50 "Amp". I can see how this could potentially be used to balance Phials, but since it takesone specific combo to fully charge a Power/Poison/Para Phial, it's pointless, and tbh, I'd say they need to make Power take much longer to charge.
Power is the big one, because with it, sword form damage increases by 20%. This is why it's absolutely meta, and it doesnt really help that every SA that gets released is Power, like, every SA since release is Power by default, even of Safi, with Ele and Exhaust being augments.
Element is honestly second best, but it's much harder to pull off properly. Some Elemental SAs will succeed in out damaging Power against the right match ups, and ZSD will do more damage than power in these matchups. But again, it takes a lot of effort and specific mixes to work. Hopefully, MR Kulve Weapons and AT Armors can help give Ele SA a boost. Ele Phials give a 25% increase in elemental damage.
I always call Exhaust a "meme" phial, because on paper, it's really good, but in practice, it's really useless in MP, works pretty aight in Solo. Basically, Sword Form will tire out the monster much faster, and you can KO monsters, a few folks using ZSD to KO monsters pretty quick. Using it with Jho Essence, you can out exhaust and KO hammers. However, Exhaust doesnt work on enraged monsters, nor on Elder Dragons. You also get Exhaust on only two weapons, Jagras SA, and as a Safi augment.
Poison, Para, and Dragon again, have great potential, but are held back by their awful weapons. Poison is on the Iron SA line, and can poison monsters, which wouldve been great if Non Ele was worth using. Para is on Barroth SA, which would be okay, but you can make a much better Para Axe with Safi, and hopefully Kulve. Dragon was actually used by the WR SA run for EX Behemoth in base game due to have good slots and being able to deal more dragon damage with Non Ele Boost. However, in IB, this is pointless, and you have Nerg, Vaal, and Safi SAs to outdo Dragon Bone SA.

Brute Tigrex's SA is exhaust as well, though it has a massive negative affinity.

Thanks for the better information! Poison, Para, and Dragon values are still vague, but at least Power vs Element phial is less cloudy.

Ah, ye, Brute has Exhaust too.
Poison, Para and Dragon vary based on the number with the phial. So if it's Paralysis 330, itll deal 33 Paralysis.

Build all safi element switch axe for raw and use safi Armor . Add médecine jewel to your build ( trust me it’s worth it) . Every 6 hit you get a free mega potion . As for sharpening I’ve put 1 sharpness awaking lv 6 and the rest attack 5 . Then there is a quest to get whetstone fin + really easy so you get speed sharpening and they last a while

Teo+Brachydium deals about the same damage and is safer, more consistent and has no sharpening downtime.

If youre able to hit only weakspots, you have no sharpening downtime.
