For the last 4 hours i have been trying to complete these three achievements and none of the animals are spawning in! I'm rotating between all the known locations but no luck.

Is there any 'trick' or 'tactic' to any of this or it's just pure dumb luck?

Living fossil is just dumb luck. For downy and bristly crakes, you need to go to an area they spawn, put on a ghillie mantle, have both your character AND your camera facing away from the spawn location. You then have to sit there and wait until they decide to spawn which in my experience ranges anywhere from a minute to an hour. Eating for the felyne zoomaster skill to increase rare endemic spawns can also help.

4 hours? i spend at least 10 hours be4 iceborne (no zoologist) damn, i dont know the exact time, but it should be 10hours or more since i do it 2 days.

Spent 20 minutes last night just loading between HR elder recess 8 and Rotten Vale 11 then travelling to 15 before repeating until I saw one at the far left side at the elder recess 8.

Threw my hook and a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ sushi fish stole the bait from the ancient fish, luckily entering the tent doesnt reset the spawns so I could grab a bait and catch it.

The Skyward Sniping event quest or whatever its called I think has increased spawn rates for Downies.

took me two hours to find downy crake in base game im a lucky bastard but on a more important note i've seen the bugtrappers straight up give someone a downy crake and on PS4 the gajalaka gave me like 4 bristly crakes

I guess i’ll give it a go some other time because this is exhausting and no fun at all. Really poor design from Capcom.

Best solution imo is doing the Pawswap trade questline, I got like 4 fossils and billions of both crakes for it. The vale gang loves pumping those out in trades.

Yesterday I did the new quest for little bird layered helmet. When I shot down one of those manta rays it had 5+ of them on it's back so I was able to catch two.

For the one in the veil I just kept checking the two areas over and over.
