So is Iceborne really as bad as the reviews claim?
I got a bit bored of end game of MHW base game, so I haven't played in quite a bit and have been feeling that itch to play again. I see so many complaints about Iceborne making a lot of peoples CPUs go to 100% and such, but is that just because of lower end PCs or is it happening to people with varying PC builds?

I don't want to buy Iceborne yet if the optimization is really bad currently, but I was able to run MHW just fine on high graphics without many FPS drops and my CPU usually stayed around 50-60% with a stream on my other monitor and what not while playing. So is it worth trying to see if i'm able to play it without an issue, or is it better to just wait until they decide to fix it(if they do....)?

Iceborne is very good, there were just problems with the launch with CPU usage. now the only problems are caused by mods.
it's an incredible expansion, one of the best games of the series an done of the best games i've ever played, even tough it has some flaws *cough*clutch claw*cough*.

If you don't have any problem with base game, chances are you are fine with Iceborne.

The base game's file ALREADY contained Iceborne. When you buy the DLC, it just unlocks its content without any additional download.

Well i'm still seeing some people within the last few days saying they're still having high CPU issues, so I wasn't sure if it was worth giving it a shot. I don't wanna drop $40 on a game I can't play at the moment. Has it been fixed for the most part then?

Also I haven't played the base game since like the first Kulve Taroth event, so i'll have to re-install it and boot it up and see how it runs before buying iceborne just in case lol.

if your base game works fine, then Iceborne will run fine too. (maybe a little FPS drop because the hoarfrost reach is the biggest and the most detailled map so far in the entire series.)

Okay cool, re-installing now and going to see how it goes. Thanks for the info!

I personally hadnt had any problems with the performance, but it is an amazing expansion. If you liked World and want more things to do, Iceborne fills just that niche. All weapons get new moves, monsters get tougher, many new monsters, new things to craft, more lategame shenanigans... it's monster hunter world, but more

Iceborne works just as well as world ever did for me. Very rarely some major issues but nothing that sticks for longer than expected. id say in the 800 hours i've played sofar I've spend less than a collective week of playing something else because of those issues.

I mean, you can always get a key and get it for half the prize...

the DLC review page is full of all the angry people when the update that hit the game wether you owned the DLC or not messed a bunch of stuff up.

your best bet is the base game review page as far as functionality goes. for content the DLC adds a lot and is slowly getting free updates so theres always something new to do.

It's bad.

There's no real pattern to the issues. Build is irrelevant, some people have the issue with high-end PCs, others have it with lower-end ones.

Some people have problems with Nvidia cards, others have crashes from using AMD cards.
Each update fixes it for some, and utterly breaks it for others.

If someone tells you they have had no issues, they likely haven't... for now. But time has shown that with each update, the game breaks for those who earlier had zero problems.

It's all a question of if you want to play the tech lottery.

I seriously doubt Capcom will bother to fix it, as the cause of the issues is the one thing Capcom will never remove for any reason, short of a lawsuit and court order.

(An anti-cheat algorithm Capcom added to the game alongside the Denuvo they already were using.
Said algorithm's purpose is to keep people from accessing Iceborne without paying for it, and is so aggressive at scanning your entire PC's active programs, that it tends to trigger anti-viruses to attack and delete the game, as it shows symptoms similar to that of spyware)

The game is really good. More challenging and fun than the base game. The negative scores are mostly because of technical issues. BUt if your base game works iceborne will also work as its not Icborne specific but general isues.

Last line made no sense, its like saying "the cart pulls the horse" instead of "the horse pulls the cart"

It means, some think "Well, if Iceborne doesn't work for me, I'll just uninstall it and go back to the base game."
I'm pointing out, that's not an option. You have Iceborne installed, whether you want it or not.

So, if you have issues with Iceborne, you're stuck. Because the base game will have that same exact issue. There is no "I'll go back to the base game" here."

But if the base game is working WITH the updated vers, it'll be fine.
What u mean is: "if you UPDATE the game to the one that is compatible with IB users, there's no going back" unless OP doesn't mind using mods that is
