Did Capcom forget that Heat Guard exists?
Isn't Raging Brachydios' slime/lava puddles at the end exactly the kind of thing this skill is supposed to work against? It just feels like they absolutely forgot that this skill exists and is supposed to protect you against environmental tick damage from hot things. Just so we're clear, this is not me ranting because I think it's unfair or too hard. I love this fight exactly because of the dread you experience in that last part. But why the hell would you create a skill just to let it catch dust due to it not doing what it's advertised as.

Because theres two maps with natural heat, the GL and Elder's Recess??? I dont think Heat Guard stops Teo and Luna's heat aura either.

It does combined with a cool drink. Heat Guard works in layers and stacks with the drink. So you need both when there a multiple heat sources at once, i.e. environment and heat aura.

It's weird, isn't it??
I was suprised when heatguard didn't work while fighting R. Brachy yesterday

It was obviously done intentionally so that it wouldn't ruin his gimmick in the last area.

It didn't ruin Xeno's gimmick though. And with the amount of people that just ignore skills that aren't attack up, critical eye, agitator etc., it wouldn't have been noticed to that extent either.

A large portion of his damage in the last area is the slime burning the hunter. Raging Brachydios barely does any attack move in the last area and spends most of his time placing more slime.

It's not heat, he empowers the slime with the immortal reactor to make it extremely aggressive and unstable to the point of it trying to make anything its host.

Oh ok. They should've changed the color maybe. Make it glowing red and really glowing, luminescent instead of making it look like lava.
But you're right, if you think of it as aggressive bacteria or something, it seems sound.

fireproof mantle blocks the tick damage, you can just use that

Therefore, shouldn't heat guard works too?
The same inconsistency happens with the heat puddles left by Safi'Jiva, btw

erm... Heat Guard has been working for me for that, With both Heat Guard and 20 Fire Resistance (or Blight Resistance 3) I can survive the pin without help from others (on 1HP, but I can pop a max potion when I get back up).

The lava from xeno and the brachy spoog aren't the same type of damage as being in the volcanic zone. You need effluvial expert charm or HH buff that ignores environmental dmg.

The hunting horn one I understand, but, really? "Effluvia Expert" stops the damage from the 'super-slime' puddles?

I guess they're technically both biological in nature, *slap's on Clearmind Charm* guess I'll find out.
