What's the best weapon type?
I got this game a while ago and after looking at some funny stuff i'm gonna play it again. I was thinking gun or hammer but what do you guys think? :Vegeta:

The best weapon is whichever is most fun for you. Personally, I use a variety of weapons based on the monster I'm fighting, as certain weapons tend to excel against certain monsters. Try them all, master a couple, and make the Fifth Fleet proud.

The pecking order is:

Gunlance > HH > Lance > IG/GS > Dodogama > Dodogama Stool > Ranged Weapons/LS

Sword and Shield hands down imo.

Super easy to use, incredible mobility, has a fairly strong shield, and does insane damage with the Perfect Rush combo.

You can't go wrong.

Not to be indecisive but there really isn't a best weapon. The weapons the developers love the most and give the best weapon models and new moves to is the Longsword. Many consider Charge Blade to be the weapon that most rewards technical skill. The Bowguns are by far the easiest weapons to use and master and they are horribly overpowered in iceborne, they are the closest thing to the strongest weapon there is.

Insect Glaive and Sword and Shield are my personal winners though, for their deep movesets allowing for a variety of contextual actions, but the kinsect could use some adjustments.

Honorable mention is Bow, which is easy to pick up and fun to play while also bringing a some utility to your hunt and giving you a wider range of skills that are useful rather than only the usual suspects. It loses points for being slightly repetitive and not having that much depth to master.

Although this generation's weapons are quite unbalance but still no "best" weapon, only weapon that fits your playing style and the monster you fight. gunlance and lance can use their shield to block most of the hits, but lack the mobility, bows are powerful and agile, but a single hit may instantly faint you, dual blades are powerful weapon, but heavily depend on evade to survive, bowguns are depend on ammo type and the parts you select, a heavy bowgun with 3 shields and a heavy bowgun without shield are quite different and need different skill build etc

There are really only 3 competitive weapons: Longsword, dual blades, and insect glaive. Everything else is far too ugly to even consider using. Of those 3, longsword is probably the best. Dual blades lose out slightly by the fact that you need like 10 pairs of them and the insect glaive loses out even more because you have to let a gross bug sit on your arm.

for me Insect Glaive is fun to use because you can do air attack and also far attack using insect. it is annoying as hell to monsters :)

If we're judging based on minmaxed DPS, bowguns and bow are currently tops, followed by DB and SNS. Overall gaps between most weapons aren't too terrible though. Play what you like, as even the least competitive weapons are still just fine.

I used Hammer through base game and Icebourne but gradually used Bow, DB, and SnS more as I learned about elemental builds.

Out of the 4 I mentioned, I have to say SnS is the easiest and best for damage and utility purposes.

Considering you have to constantly hold a button to aim while pushing other buttons to attack, Bow takes the most effort yet feels the safest once you have a decent stamina build.
