Pretty sure that you cannot use Iai moves without iceborne.

After an attack look for the special sheath option in your button guide at the top right. By default I believe it's RT and B or A. When in special sheath, Y allows you to poise through an attack if you time it perfectly but you still take some damage, and landing this whether you get hit or not causes you to regen gauge. Doing RT from special sheath perfectly timed teleports you through the attack and avoids all damage, if you miss the timing it costs 1 bar of your weapon gauge. Either way, that RT attack does a generous amount of damage and tremendous stagger.

If you don't see the option for special sheath after doing an attack then I guess you would need Iceborne to unlock it.

Normally, to pull into lai Stance, you'll need to go into special sheath.

You know about foresight slash right?
Same principle as the Foresight slash, but use the dodge button instead of small thrust attack button. Your character will then sheath the longsword at its waist area.

If it doesn't work, then that would mean you'll need the Iceborne DLC.

It's a pretty large stretch of logic to arrive at this conclusion, but you could see it that way. You could flip it and say it's meant for the increased difficulty of master rank, as Low and High rank have been made pretty flimsy by defender and guardian equipment.

Base game didn't need it as foresight slash was better in base until they nerfed it in Iceborne so not really.

I gotta agree tho that it's really weird that weapon movesets are hidden behind DLC content.

Why? It's new content that was added expressly FOR the expansion.

I would be more bothered by the idea if they weren't contextual attacks. Claw mounting from elemental discharge on SA is a good example. The only bnb attack as part of the iceborne new weapon moves is perfect rush.

idk guys. no other MH ever gave you new basic movesets after reaching G rank (or buying G rank in this case).

That's what I'm saying. For most weapons it's not a part of their basic moveset. Only SNS uses their new attack as a bnb.

No other MH game released g rank as an expac instead of a completely separate game
