Unfun & EZ mode : ranged weapons
You are welcome.
pretty much this, but i dont like the lance either. i enjoyed lance in world, but i really dont like lance in iceborne. feels weak + the clutchclaw counter feels really clunky.
on the other hand, i could not stand longsword in world, while i enjoy it far more in iceborne
my favorite is switchaxe though and i would enjoy it far more, if i could get a paralysis phial on my safi switchaxe.
1. Insect Glave- You can spin around like a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ what more do you want?
2. Hunting Horn- You beat the ♥♥♥♥ out of monsters with music.
3. Everything else.
1. Sword and Shield
2. Great Sword
3. Switch Axe
4. Charge Blade
5. Long Sword
6. Hunting Horn
7. Hammer
8. Gunlance

10. Lance
11. Insect Glaive

13. Light Bowgun
14. Bow
SnS is at the top because it's the one weapon that simultaneously has no upkeep, high speed, and tons of utility while still being a melee weapon. No bars or resources, no weaknesses, and it can do anything in the game.
GS is my main, so bias. The only reason it's not number 1 because of its lack of variety.
SA and CB are equal, but I put SA in front because of Swag bias.
I don't use LS very often, but I'm not going to put the super-flashy weeaboo weapon too low on the list. I'm not that dishonest.
HH is just in the most reasonable spot. It's not more fun to use than those above it, but it's definitely more fun to use than those below it...
...except Hammer, it's awrite. I don't use it myself, but I do see them spin-to-winning through the air from time to time and they look like they're having fun.
GL and HBG are equal when it comes to "super fun when played your way, super boring when played the meta way". Gunlance has endless explosions, HBG has endless options, but I still can't quite put them any higher on the list. Even though HBG is my secondary main, melee weapons are just more fun by default...
...unless those weapons are Lance, IG, or DB. Lance's flying after counter-claw is the most fun Lance has ever been, which is sad. Meanwhile, IG uses it's ability to jump as an excuse to suck (and be forced to play a kinsect-flinging minigame), and none of DB's attacks can be distinguished from each other. Wild flailing of blades combos into another wild flailing of blades, or you can jump and wildly flail your blades, or stay on the ground and do your superbladeflail attack.
At the very bottom I put LBG and Bow because, as high-mobility ranged weapons, they're simultaneously monotonous with their attacks and completely bereft of any challenge. LBG is higher only because of Wyvernblast Type 2 and sliding reload, while Bow doesn't really have anything cool or fancy to bring to the table besides dragon piercer, which can't quite match the hotness brought by literally any other weapon in the game.
#3: Hammers' sliding spin attacks are gross yet awesome at the same time.
#4: Lance, but clutch counter, charging and advancing guard with aggressive plays. A passive block lance is boring.
#5: Gunlance with Wide or Normal shelling is definitely more interesting than Long shelling types. But, to be effective with it, you need to git real gud and practice real hard.
... I only like #6: Bowguns with auto-load, none of that rapid fire crap.
I hate bow, longsword, and dual blades.
SnS - fast weapon done right (looking at you Dual Blades)
Hammer - Breaking skulls has never been so fun
Charge Blade - It just has a really good flow when you're past the initial confusion.
4. Greatsword - old main but I just can't bring myself to use it in World. It just feels wrong.
5. Longsword - long story short: I don't use it. I used it in Freedom Unite when fighting Lao Shan Lung or Shen Gaoren and it's a cool weapon ... but I always chose something else that just clicks with me better.
6. Lance - after I was done with P3rd I decided to drop Gunlance and picked up a lance. Charge Blade instincts kicked in and counter lancing turned out super fun. Might try playing through some future MH game with it at some point.
7. Insect Glaive - It's longsword/Switch-Axe but with a somewhat pointless aerial focus. Don't really use it outside of random low priority quests. I like its ground combos and the new downward thrust but the weapon being aerial king doesn't seem to serve much purpose.
Hunting Horn and Switch-Axe are about the same amount of fun for me - I want to like the horn but that moveset doesn't click with me at all. Switch-Axe just seems ... pointless. It doesn't really seem to have focus on anything in particular. Morphing isn't complicated, both movesets are super easy to use ... It's a weapon and not much more.
Ranged Weapons - I loved playing ranged weapons on arena quests back in Freedom Unite. I should probably give them a more serious try but the initial feeling I'm getting from them here is "It's just not satisfying".
13. Gunlance - explosions, I know. I've tried learning it at one point because it always seemed really cool but even though I've played through entirety of low and high rank of P3rd with it I still didn't know how to use it and never found it satisfying.

SnS because i love being able to easily switch around between pure damage, support and everything inbetween and CB for the crazy combos it can do both with sets for non-elemental and elemental damage both, nothing beats CB and GS if you land that perfectly timed hit on monsters.
