To capcom: iceborne's rathalos and rathian design is infuriating.
Doing my second playthrough (switching to ps4) and FOR THE LOVE GOD do i hate these guys with everything I have:
1) they constantly fly and shoot fireballs, so you can't attack them really. Just run around like an idiot. <=== really bad concept. They fly for far too long and they are on ground for far shorter time that needs to be.
2) You can use flashpod only once to drop them for couple of seconds (doesn't even give proper knockdwon!!!). And only one more to stop them from leaving the locale is somehow by a miracle you manage to use it after their f?cking roar before they away.
3) they move from ONE PLACE TO ANOTHER, wasting your time more and more. In Forest it's even worse. Especially, when you don't have tailrider.
4) there's always ANOTHER F?CKING RATHIAN/RATHALOS flying around and dropping by. And whilst you're dung podding one, the other one flies away for some reason.
5) Flinch shot from the air: who's idea was it that a person who flinch shots lands so far away? If you're solo, flinch shotting from the air, if you're not backed to the wall is so detrimental. You just gotta run around and wait for them to land. And then wait for big opening to flinch shot.

I feel like if I started playing when Iceborne came out, not World, I would have dropped this game because of flying monsters.
P.S. I won't even talk about kushala daora.

But rathian aka queen of land will not be in the air for a long fight
Rathalos king of skys will be flying
also if you are fighting one sometime the mate will join in

So you complain that they fly too long but refuse to ground them with a flinch shot because the land too far away? Okay then...

Nothing compared to the horror that is Azure Rathalos.

Silver Rat is just annoying imo because if I get roar stunned too close to it, it follows up with a fireball immediately for a knockdown, then big charged fireball AOE that just kills me at that point. Feels like I'm just dead if that roar catches me.

Most everything in this game is just annoying if you don't exploit the crap out of the claw mechanic. Every time I go back to LR/HR to procure some mats, I'm always reminded just how much funner those monsters to fight against (and not just because I have better gear).

Really didn't expect this expansion would almost single-handedly reverse my high opinion on World but here we are. Not so excited about MHW2 now.

Not Capcom's fault that you fail to capitalize on the time Rathalos does land and can't seem to aim your weapon at his low hanging tail.

Also, protip for Kushala: Hit him in the face. He's very easily stunned and KOed and the wind pressure can't reach you there. But again, that requires the player to actually properly punish when he lands.

lol, guys. I am mr250 on PC and I fought everything from normal to arch tempered. All of them solo first time except those who are limited to group ones. So, stop with that attitude.

I am saying that their design is so unfun that I'd rather solo tempered lunastra than a tempered rathalos/gold&silver raths.

Yes, rathian and gold rath don't spend much time in the air, but they either in the air shooting fireballs or on the ground running around or, in gold's case, doing circular attacks. They are okay, I guess, in that regard compared to fully flying wyverns and elders.


I will put it this way: in optional quest arena it takes me 7-10min to kill them, outside in the forest can take up to 15-20 due to their constant escaping, flying too far away and intervention from another rath.

It doesn't matter what rank you are. If you think Rathalos is a tedious, poorly designed fight, then clearly you haven't learned how to properly fight him. I'm pretty sure Capcom knows best when it comes to designing their own game.

Also who the hell has that much experience playing MHW and yet doesn't know exactly which camp to fast travel to in order to intercept their movements? That's something you should have learned early on, dude.

I know how to kill them, I know about traps, flashpods, etc. I am not saying they are unkillable or unfair, etc. I am saying that their design is not fun, cause if you're melee, you just run around and wait for them to land, with occasional 50-150 damage on their tail, if you chase them around.

Sorry. Usually when someone complains this much about the Raths (of all the monsters), we automatically assume you're a scrub.

what kind of logic is that? If i am killing them, then clearly i learnt how to do it. It doesn't change the fact that I find them annoying nonetheless. I would understand if they fly around and force you on defensive for a short period of time, but not when they fly 80-90% of the time on a melee oriented game.

I switched to bow only playthrough, so it's better, but I still find their design bad even for ranged.
