Damage done and tenderising
How much of a big difference does it on the whole run, considering time and investment it requires to keep a spot tenderised, if I just don't do any of that?

With bow it takes too much time and effort to keep one spot tenderised. And if I am in the group full of potatoes, it's even worse. Plenty of times I had to use temporal mantle charges or risk getting hit to tenderise spot for maximum damage for flinch shot. Sucks the fun out of the game sometimes.

So if you have a part with a with a hitzone value of 0.4 (40%), tenderize it will make it equivalent to a 0.55 (55%) (40 + 15 from tenderize) hitzone value, resulting in a 37.5% increase damage.

The most a monster is already weak on a part, the less efficient tenderize is.
Some monsters need to be tenderized, like G.Ratian and S.Rathalos head, Zinogre forelegs, or Lunastra head.
If you are good enough, you can deal so much damage to the monster that it will trip enough time to let you tenderize his part for the entire hunt, but it's quite hard.
If you don't feel necesary to tenderize the monster, don't force it and just enjoy the hunt !

After playing GS/SwA for so long, I didn't think light weapons suffer so much from this new change.
It's a big difference for melee, don't know for range but I guess the same rules apply, you lose a ton of dps by not using it every 90 secs.

Yup, the clunk claw destroyed and sucked the fun right out of the game, it's a dumb mechanic that cuts the flow of the battle. The only good part is wall slams and that's it.

I use a lot of different weapons, and idk why, but the bow absolutely feels the worst for tenderizing.

well this sucks.. I thought if i could get at least 70-80% affinity, I will be fine without tenderising spots. wall slams are nice, but having to clutch claw twice to tenderise or seeing grey numbers sucks so much.

Bow doesn't need to really tenderize for dps but you should be tenderizing every chance you get the new stagger animation anyways. I use a controller to play bow and it's not really hard to tenderize since all I need to do is press right stick to switch modes. You can also just include a few claw attacks before the finisher if you want to tenderize it in one go.

It’s a big difference for almost everybody given that the damage you deal on a part depends on the hitzone that you hit and the hitzone value increases by a bunch when you tenderize (enough to become a weakpoint to trigger the 30% affinity from wex and the extra 20% from wex which only comes in when you tenderize giving you +50% affinity).

The only time it won’t make a difference is sticky ammo, gunlance shelling attacks and charge blade impact phial damage. If you’re trying to speedrun and annoyed with the mechanics in the game because “gotta go fast” then put down the game. No one is forcing you to play it. I find that tenderizing has been nothing but a benefit to MOST players assuming your weapon doesn’t have to tenderize twice because you can make your own weakpoints. If they released the game with the same flinch values, the same hitzone values for monsters (which in the past they’ve done similar things for grank expansions) the hunts would’ve taken so much longer. I do think longsword, insect glaive, bow and lbg needs a way to tenderize in one go. Especially IG and LS. But other than that I quite like the claw mechanic.

Another thing to add, I think usually with bow if you aim for the head you’re USUALLY good for damage and then you can just claw when the monster is exhausted as the devs intended. You don’t really have to worry about keeping any other part tenderized, emphasis on the usually though. Recommend looking up hitzone values for all of the monsters including the elemental hitzone values since the hunters notes are lies especially because you’re a bow player you should be focusing on element damage.

ah, you started out so well only to add this moronic comment. Not even gonna explain why it is moronic, cause I get the feeling, you will not understand.

I do tenderise every time I get drooling animtion or when I get them down from flinch shot, I end the combo with clutch claw => tenderise. BUT losing those hitzone values mid fight against fast enemies sucks so hard that if you need to tenderise again, you need to sheathe your weapon and run around, so when you get the chance you won't accidentally clutch claw to the wrong place or be too far away or on the wrong side to clutch claw in time.

well, this is useful input. Thanks. I wish they added proper hitzone values for monsters in hunter's notes. Googling monster stats every time gets annoying

If you’re so smart and I’m moronic, then why are you trying to attain a world record that’ll last about a week when I’m playing to have fun? And why are you asking MORONS like me for advice on the forums? I’m giving genuine advice and you’re coming out and calling me a moron. These ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ forums are literally filled with the most retarded people imaginable. Goodbye and royally go ♥♥♥♥ yourself.

I said your comment was moronic, not you. But reading this... well, you know.

Keep a mental tracker on how many claw slaps you've made, as 3 + a light weapon claw attack will tenderize something. I have no idea how this impacts bows, but at least for melee, you're going to be clawing the head anyway, so it's not terrible to keep it softened. Keeping 100% uptime will be challenging, but that's just kind of how it is.
