Purple Sharpness. Is It Really Worth It?
If yes, then for which weapons?

Elemental stuff it's a big deal afaik.
Outside that, meh? The jump isn't nearly as amazing as blue to white was.

Looking at this

https://monsterhunterworld.wiki.fextralife.com/Sharpness

It doesn't look like there is much bonus from going from white to purple.

The Raw goes from 1.32 to 1.39 which is a whooping 0.07 more whatever bonus that is. Elemental gets a bit more but that's about it.

So unless there are some other hidden stats for a massive damage bonus I'd just aim for at least white and if it gets purple it's just a bonus.

For non-elemental weapons, the jump is still pretty significant in that Purple hits an effective 5.30% bonus to your raw damage from White, even without elemental. With fully upgraded (not augmented) weapons in MR, that's around 12-16 bonus points of tRaw (worth ~4-5 Attack Boost, ~2-3 Peak or Agitator). As you slot in more raw damage skills such as Non-Elemental Boost, the effective amount of bonus tRaw gets even higher since it's a multiplier, not a flat buff. Of course, there's also sharpness upkeep to remember so it's not going to be up quite as often as White without some investment, but make of that what you will.

5.3% might not sound significant, but keep in mind that means that a hunt that would take 20 minutes would take 19 or less if you stagger significantly easier with that damage boost.

so would you upgrade safi weapon purely with atk or get it to purple sharpness with sharpness V (1-2)

Very true. Adding on to the fact that Purple bounces much less makes hunts a fair bit smoother, aside from sharpening somewhat more often.

All else considered I suppose the question of White or Purple really depends on which weapon trees you are considering.

For example, Ruiner Nergi weapons generally have 280-290 base tRaw and never reach Purple, so if you had absolutely zero damage skills equipped they would usually deal equivalent damage to Stygian Zin weapons with around 270 base tRaw that hits Purple. With investment, Stygian Zin quickly outpaces Ruiner with its Purple multiplier.

Generally speaking, the highest damage Safi melee builds like to include either (a) one Sharpness VI awakening or (b) two Sharpness V awakenings, the rest having some combination of Attack and either Teostra Essence or more Attack.

Safi meta builds can be found at this link:

For LS you can go with sharpness 55 Attack 655, then use teo three piece, buff body, and yian garuga leg. Skill-wise, if your decos are good enough, you can go with attack lv7, critical eye lv7, agitator lv5, health boost lv3, critical boost lv3, weakness exploit lv3, handicraft lv2. For augment, I suggest health regen + crit. This gives 90 crit on un-tenderized weak points when monster is not enraged. Also with this you can get master touch and 40 purple sharpness, which is normally enough for one area.
