Edit: Because Weaknes exploit does not trigger because orange is not always a weak point.
I use it on SnS. I stay in white sharpness the whole quest, often at max.
A crit is shown with a large red slash line where you've hit and a sound if done right.
For the skill to be useful you need a build that has very high affinity. If it is going down, you aren't critting.
orange numbers are not crits. They do not signify that you have done a crit. The orange numbers barely mean anything useful.
I though crit is indicated with a red slash, sound, yellow text and a star under the number
Likewise, you can get crits without hitting weak spots. You can get a crit anywhere, and it won't be orange.
I advise to ignore the numbers and look for the slash.
Edit, i thought I should clarify.
The star indicates crit.
Orange numbers aren't related to crits at all.
