Is GS Sniping still viable?
I'm curious of some builds for GS sniping. How does it do on times, is it still viable, or are we just looking at charge and mighty stuff? My build is based on the stamina/weakness/crit boost/crit stuff, but I really miss sniping. I just don't have many decos, so i'm limited, however i'm farming "AT" Jagras, basically doing the puke and quit method, 2-3 warped and 3-5 worn, and a bunch of gleaming (Think that's the blue one) after 3 runs. Much more efficient than killing for the decos. I still kill it often but it's when I get a lot of Warped stones, may as well.

Kirin would be a good example of what i'm looking at, specific mons. IF I can snipe and do it fast enough that damage racks up, aim for trips, stuns, the shoulder bump has a huge moi effect and B (Xbox) has a decent forward move lunge to reposition to work with. MHFU used to be about speed runs at the end of its life so any hit you could get at any time was good. Sort of how I still play.
Yeah, but it shouldnt be your main source of damage. You main source should be lvl 3 GS charges. You can still snipe, but being a Great Sword Sniper is just a waste of time for everyone
Well, not for me. I find it entertaining ;) I know how to GS like your supposed to lol. This game has me bored, sort of fun to try different things. I wish poison was still effective :(

When you can, you should definitely get the full charges off. But if you can't, no charged hits only do something like half the damage, that still adds up pretty rapidly.

Pretty much this. It's the principal behind sniping. Things added where you could stun enemies with head hits were neat but honestly it's about getting quick, open hits and boost that damage, run for a unsheathe charge whenever you have a good opening (focus is part of it) and get your crits in. Boost that unsheathe damage and you'll rack up damage pretty quickly. I'm getting 300's pretty consistent and it's just hit, sheathe walk and flick the joystick into another swing. Roll, repeat. Charge a lot but rather than getting greedy with charges for the final spin you can rack up safe damage and get trips quite often due to focused hits on specific areas. Times are a bit slower but not thatm uch, no idea what people are talking about after making a build.

Also the Jargras puke thing is ridiculous. In 8 min I get around 7 warped and 10 worn stones. Some runs I get nothing but this is like a four to six minute break before it starts RNG gold again.

It is if you like playing safe

I think this is probably the best answer here after playing it. Anyone wanting to try this type of play style that isn't familiar with the older monster hunter games, MHW is pretty much evolved combat but the monster AI is slower and much less agressive, and your movements are much more fluid. Using quick sheathe/critical draw on GS was one of the safer playstyles to still put out some solid DPS. IF you get good enough, you can trip, cut tails, stager (just play solo to count your hits, and online you sort of just pay attention to what legs have been hit the most or count your hits on a specific part to stagger/trip). Aim for placing weakness exploit or affinity, depending on what you're wanting (I prefer a mix) so you can get fast hits, roll quickly, the GS has a major moi on shoulder ram that rolls through roars like evade 1, and had a wide swing for repositioning to get in an extra tag while getting ready to roll/sheathe.

So far, i've found my times aren't too much different. Full charges take a lot of practice and getting the right openings/knowing when to go for a 2 charge and roll vs greedy and nothing, and going for a snipe crit, these methods are pretty much what you want to do. By all means charge, as much as possible. The final "spin to win" for the GS is really powerful, but those chip hits really do add up with critical, crit draw, and weakness exploit. Find your mix of damage vs skills you need, and learn to stagger or trip, or any openings you can make for triple charges. This just helps you when you're not able to get in safe, but can still output damage quite frequently, but much more safely. You'll want to begin actually blocking simetimes, as mighty/crit/weakness is sort of the cookie cutter, but it's not that OP in comparison. People should test this out! Get into the old school GS play haha. Still, you're not putting out min max damage, but it's quite viable after testing. Downed Extremoth solo in 24 min. Not the most amazing times but i'm also not very good with this mon, however it made the fight a lot more manageable.
